In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

Someone appears to have given the current POTUS one of those DYMO lablemaker things because he seems determined to slap his name over everything.

As predicted, those who heard the Epstein files were being released and who bought shares in Sharpies parent company probably made a killing.

"The War Between the Land and the Sea" came to an end. It somehow managed to have both sides do horrific things and yet never felt quite like a war or a resolution and even Kate stewart doing morally dubious things that seem at odds with her established character. And Barclay, after several episodes of establishing him as an interesting character with depth and complexity, seemed to become little more than a lovesick teenager. Not a bad ending, just an unstaisfying one (to me, at any rate).

Scans_Daily remains profoundly non-demoninational (My Santa-based Mod avatar being a slight personal quirk more than anything), so if you celebrate Christmas, Kwanza, Solstice, Krampusacht, the purposefully nebulous "Holiday" of the Pastafarians, or nothing at all, then we wish you equally well. (And I think a couple of those are already past)

To those headed home for the holidays, may it go as smoothly as possible, and for those who aren't... well, we're still here for you so you're not alone!

And a special shout-out to those poor folks whose birthday is December 25th who are tired of it being overshadowed by "that guy".

I've felt even worse this week. I did not manage to read, play or bake anything. I barely managed to do the minimum responsibilities at work. I will have to work on Christmas Eve, and probably also on New Year. I wish I didn't. I wish I was at least productive, I don't need to do anything pleasant but I must perform my chores. :( For more bad news, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will be removed from Netflix by the end of the year, joining Voltron Legendary Defender, Infinity Train, and Amphibia as de facto lost media.

If giant media conglomerates were really serious about combating piracy, they wouldn't make it mandatory so frequently.

I hope you feel healthier soon, LAI!

This week’s comics ramblings:

Catwoman. Doug Moench's run was a chore, but I managed to make it through. Now it is Devin Grayson's turn. Pencils are still by Jim Balent though and are still as cheesecakey as you would expect.

Daredevil Masterworks Vol. 16. The death of Elektra. Thus begins the legend of Matt Murdock's cursed penis.

Dazzler. Reading this for my own interest again. Must resist making the same tired Jem jokes I made when I posted the series ages ago.

Defenders Masterworks Vol. 4. Jack Norriss is still there. I didn’t think there would be a Defenders character that I would dislike more than Nighthawk, but there we go.

Doctor Fate. The series comes to an end with the William Messner-Loebs run and now it is time to move on to the post-Zero Hour edgy reboot. Hopefully it won’t be as cringey as the J.M. DeMatteis run.

Excalibur Epic Collection: The Battle For Britain. In which writers can’t tell the difference between Scottish and Irish. Also, it feels weird to see Kitty being so chummy with Rahne. It helps that Claremont isn’t the writer.

The Flash by Mark Waid. The return of “Barry Allen”. It was Reverse-Flash all along!

Leg infection is back. On antibiotics but maybe not enough of them. Falling behind on everything, but still able to work.

Hoping to see family for Christmas but all the great-grandkids will be elsewhere.

Over at my blog, I look at a recent anime about clobbering. https://www.skjam.com/2025/12/20/anime-review-may-i-ask-for-one-final-thing/

oh look they've finally seen fit to tell us the plot for the Aang movie: "In the movie, directed by Lauren Montgomery with Steve Ahn and William Mata, Avatar Aang, the world’s last Airbender, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve."

watched more of American Ghosts. Oh look they adapted the dinner party episode. I don't begrudge them for changing things it's just that the end result wasn't as good as the original.
Oh look they remade the episode about the Scoutmasters death. You know it's odd they changed the climax, in a way that provided a solid emotional beat and resolved the various plots, but then the scene kept on going and ended on a wacky joke. They already had a coda after that which had some jokes, why couldn't they have ended this scene on a sombre moment?

Still after that there was a string on pretty good episodes. The Viking ghost and the Native American ghost are alright ("I hate Halloween since I died during a Halloween party here in 1996.....nah I'm just fucking with you") They had some decent situations for episodes (every year on Halloween the mansion is vandalized by teenagers, there's some British ghosts from the Revolutionary war and they go to war constantly but it's really an excuse for the two captains to hang out, the lady ghost accidentally posses the husband's body when they need to impress a wedding planner)

oh yes I learnt about Draculaland the exciting Dracula-themed theme park planned to turn Romania into a cultural hotspot.
We've got the AI videos and images showing Dracula's castle, Victorian London (which soon devolves into present London with the London Eye, the Beatles and some freaky mascots standing in front of a phone booth) and New Orleans the iconic locale from the novel!
Now obviously you all want to be a part of this, so thankfully you can fill out the form on their website to become an investor (don't look at the roadmap which says that all the major planning and funding was done in 2024-2025 when the project was only announced this December. Also don't think about how the construction is dated from 2025-2026, so long as they dig a hole in the ground it's not a lie)
Yes Draculaland will change everything, with the Dracula Metaverse and the Dracula race track.

Even if Dracland wasn't a scam they'd probably build it in the part of the country that Vladdy raided rather than ruled.

As far as plot synopses go, that's pretty generic.
But it beats "everyone rags on Aang for nothing" or "Team Avatar spends ninety minutes bickering with one another".
(Though given Korra and all, there's not a lot of tension in there as is...)

Watched the early '70s movie Fools' Parade this month - by virtue of it having a scene where a character played by James Stewart uses dynamite to threaten a crooked banker, it could be considered seasonal.

(Fun movie - it's got an older James Stewart, a younger Kurt Russell, and George Kennedy as one heck of a prison goon.)

Almost, almost managed to go without hearing any Slade this year.

Well, it's been four issues so far and this new Nova hasn't been cancelled yet.
So far, so good.
McKay seems to have actually read Annihilation: Silver Surfer. Spooky.

In the category of "okay, but... why?" decisions, Marvel have announced yet another Sentry series.
Which is written by Jenkins.
also he's got a Carol Danvers miniseries for some reason.

Christmas is over and the new year is on it's way, lets hope there are some good things in there.
I have discovered a brilliant series call Kevin Can F**k Himself. This is my follow up to series like Bojack Horseman.
I have not had the time for much reading but now Christmas is over, I will be able to make the time. I have two books already lined up.
Hope everyone had great holidays.
