In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

Honestly, even I weren't in a rush today, I'd likely actively avoid mentioning the news because... there's just so damn much of it

So please away you go.

I will mention that I finally got around to watching TRON: Ares and whilst the career, and apparent appeal, of Jared Leto continues to baffle me somewhat, it LOOKED absolutely gorgeous!

Started "The Pitt" last might and before we knew it our household had gotten 4 episodes in. Incredibly diverting television.

Also dipping into Worlds Beyond Number's new campaign, which is fun. I kinda fell off the last one from how dense the lore got, it was hard to keep up; hopefully this one will be a bit more gripping.

This week’s comics ramblings:

New Guardians. I have finished the series and... it was not good. The first issue was bad, borderline offensive. At least the second issue had SNOWFLAME!! Everything else was pretty standard. It won’t be any surprise that most of these characters ended up as Crisis fodder. Extraño might turn up in the background in a Pride anthology, but that’s it.

New Mutants. It is all a bit of a comedown after the Secret Wars II aftermath. I am in half a mind to stop here. I may read the next Epic Collection, if only for the Fallen Angels mini-series.

Orion. Walter Simonson does Jack Kirby's Fourth World. ‘Nuff said! I haven’t read any of the other Fourth World titles from this time, but I believe they weren’t well received. The only other non-Kirby Fourth World book I have read was the J.M. DeMatteis Mister Miracle.

Power of the Atom. Ray returns from war to a hero’s welcome. Even Jean Loring is there. I am sure Jean’s new husband won’t get the wrong idea.

The Question. I’m not usually a fan of grimy looking artwork, but the art style matches the book’s tone. I always feel dirty after reading it. Hub City really is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. It makes Gotham look like a utopia.

Sensational She-Hulk. A team-up with Howard the Duck leads to a journey into the Baloneyverse. Yes, this is a Steve Gerber book. Why do you ask?

Silver Surfer. 3 issues in and it all becomes about Mantis. It is a Steve Englehart book, what did you expect? It is an okay book if you can get through the character shilling, though.

In MyUniverse news, Money in the Bank winners Kane and Carmella cashed-in on Seth Rollins and Kairi Sane respectively. Drew McIntyre is still undefeated after winning the Undisputed Championship at Backlash. Chelsea Green has her first loss after winning the Raw Women’s Championship. It was down to the special referee being on the side of her opponent. Thankfully, it was a non-title match.

Well, there was the New Mutants duffing up Magus. That was pretty impressive.
And, uh... hold on... *checks*.
Oh, yes. That weird 'un with them meeting Robert the Bruce...

And also Cypher nearly gettin' some at a party.

(oh and the issue with Larry Bodine. Guest-starring the New Mutants!)

"the issue with Larry Bodine"

In which Kitty says a slur. Again.

EDIF: Upon a closer look, she says several slurs.

I have written lengthy commentary on the anime series I liked the most over previous two years, please check it out: https://www.pillowfort.social/posts/7107060
I'm really proud of this piece, I love writing meta but I haven't had time or energy to write any longer pieces since July. To think of it, I have barely had energy to do anything but work and sleep at least since Thanksgiving. I wish I could just take a few days off and read a book, a comic (oh dear, I realized I haven't even finished my August comics) or a game (I want to at least finish Room no 9 or The Patient S Remedy, I left those stories hanging). Even watching anime had to be taken from my sleep time the last season. I have an ambitious watching plan for winter 2026 anime, with eight series (out of which I only consider one to be objectively good, the others simply have my favourite themes):
-The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbouring Country (generic Reborn as a Villainess clone where the love interest seems to be a fellow reincarnated who knew the protagonist in her original life)
-The Holy Grail if Eris (unlucky noble girl is haunted by the ghost of executed villainess who wants her to find who framed her, leading to her death)
-The Other World's Books Depend On the Bean Counter (an overworked accountant accidentally tags along on a trip to a fantasy world and decides to a an accountant there, it's a BL romance and the protagonist is extremely relatable)
-For You In Full Bloom (a Japanese American girl obsessed with a teen athlete transfers to an all boys school in Japan to be with her crush even if it means she has to pretend to be a boy, I love how nearly yandere she is and how she is portrayed with elements of a seme archetype)
-In Clear Moonlit Dysk (a very masculine tomboy catches an eye of a rich handsome boy, who doesn't expect her to become properly feminine, instead liking her as she is)
-Tamon's B-Side (a fangirl working as housekeeping meets her idol irl, realizing he is gloomy and extremely insecure, and wants to support him even more)
-Does It Count If My First Time Is With An Android (a female programmer received a sentient female sexbot, it's basically porn with feelings and an excuse plot)
-The Champignon Witch (a truly artistic quality fantasy anime about a lonely witch living in a forest, the designs are phenomenal, and the music is among best I have ever heard in anime).
I don't know if I'll be able to follow through with this plan. I feel that I would need an additional day every week to properly recover from the stress of work. I know I am a failure, but I fail ever harder the longer I go, eh.

I admire your ambition. Even if you don’t achieve everything, I think you’ve achieved a lot.

Is For You in Full Bloom Hana Kimi? I started reading that a long time ago and never finished it. You make it sound more exciting than I remember, so I should check that out. I’ve read a bit of Bean Counter and enjoyed it. Hope they adapt it well. I’ve read one volume of In Clear Moonlit Dusk. I hope they do something interesting with gender nonconformity. It would be so easy to mess it up.

Yes it's Hana Kimi, the manga ended so long ago I never expect for an anime to be made, must be the zeitgeist, gives me a cautious hope for some of my other beloved old titles. Dusk reminds me of The Rose Of Versailles without the Versailles lol, the characterisation of the protagonist's is similar, which interests me a lot. Thank you!

I have watched Seasons One through Eight and Ten of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I've stated before why I won't complete Season Nine. Tell you the truth, I'm surprised I completed any of the Red Skies Saga.

Watched that Tron: Ares.
Actually thought it was alright, the massive drag factor of Jared Leto aside.
(Think it's like a version of charisn'tma in action? Hmm.)
Whatisname does a good corporate slimeball.

Big ol'd storm blew through last week.
Where we was missed the severe weather, so we just got a few hours of snow.
And suspicious paw trails all over the garden, like some canid-like mammal was wandering around.
They got real close to the house, too. Right by the catflap.

Last week's Ultimate X-Men was some interesting tying together going on.
Though I am a bit puzzled by the apparent decision that most of the series' events were the result of some random teenager manipulating everyone.

Whole slew of entries added to the Digimon Reference Book this week. Finally, they've covered the entire Chronomon line. Woo!

Contemplating whether to get X-Men: The Gift online, because it's impossible to find a copy out in the shops for love nor money.
But the only bits I'm interested in are the Alpha Flight crossover, while the rest looks... extremely Claremont.
As opposed to the crossover, which just looks very Claremont.

Also fighting the horrible urge to look over every appearance of Nathaniel Richards (Reed's dad, not Kang. Though there is some overlap.)
Current plan is to ignore it for a week and hope it goes away.

I'm trying. But they're so tempting. Like a shiny bug zapper...
(only instead of electric shocks, it's reading the DeFalco run.)

I feel partly to blame. If only I hadn't started posting those DeFalco Fantastic Fours.

Don't worry, it's not 'cause of that.
It's more Ultimate Endgame.
(if anything, the DeFalco scans are helping resist the temptation.
What with knowing just how much Lyja there is, for a start...)

I have been really busy lately. I adopted a lovely dog and two cats from a shelter and I have been busy settling them in.
I did read The Midnight Estate which was really good. I will make time to do some more reading and catching up on my comic book related stuff.
