"When Jonathan Reason falls asleep, he becomes... something terrible."
Experiments resume on poor ol' Jonathan. It's fairly monotonous for the lad - he's shot with a dart to put him to sleep, "he" wrecks the containment centre he's in, then two scientists - Dr. Phillips and a more junior associate - come in to collect data, and give Jonathan a meal he can't eat with his hands and a drink they have to pour into his mouth. Several days pass in rapid succession.
This is interrupted by the arrival of Chief Nicoli, the usually level-headed lawman of the Josiah community. He's a tad upset, considering that last issue his son Hipp got into a fight with Jonathan, and it's not looking like Hipp walked away. Phillips goes to deal with it, leaving the other scientist alone.

Of course, just because they put water into Jonny's mouth doesn't mean he has to swallow it...

On a subsequent analysis Phillips insists on taking Jonathan's glasses, since he believes they're also messing with the readings. While he's out, Jonathan tries to reach out to Bow-Tie again:

This is the last straw for Phillips. Bow-Tie doesn't come back after this. Growing fainter from repeated spitting-away of his drinks, Jonathan has a question that Phillips (not exactly following his own orders) is happy to answer:

When he wakes up...
