Dreamwidth Migration!

Judging by all the Dreamwidth invite spam posts we were getting for a bit, it looks like most of you have figured out without us needing to tell you that yes, indeed, we are moving to Dreamwidth. More than half of you who voted said that you would certainly come with us if we moved to Dreamwidth, and we got many, many enthusiastic comments and suggestions -- thank you all so much.

Now it's time to hammer out some logistics. After some back and forth with the Dreamwidth admins and a look at the mod team's to-do list for the move, we're ballparking the Great Scans_Daily Move Party for this weekend.

It's been confirmed that Dreamwidth will give the mod team link to an invite code generator that will provide us with enough codes to move the whole community (and then some). When we have this url, we will provide the link in a locked post to both communities. If you need an invite to get a Dreamwidth account, all you will need to do is follow the link, click a button, and receive an invite code to create your account.

If you really want to set up an account right now, you have several options:
- You can buy an account. One last reminder: anyone who wants to buy a paid account is advised to do so by October 31st, before the price hike.
- You can go to sd_invite and ask us to send you a code from our donation pool.

The corollary of this is that if you have codes you're willing to donate, it would be fantabulous if you'd go over to this post and send them to us so we can keep the pool going. People have been incredibly generous so far. Thank you so much, everyone.

Note: A number of people donated codes before October 24th, when we first found out and announced that there would be an invite generator to get the community started. We don't want to just assume without asking that you still want to give us your codes under changed circumstances, so we've contacted you to confirm your donation. If you haven't already, pease let us know. Even if you've changed your mind, we still very much appreciate the offer.

I am very confused.

1) I cannot leave a comment to get a code for an account without apparently already having an account.

2) So is SD now a members only paid community when it moves?

1) You can log in using OpenID. If you have an LJ account, you have an OpenID login.

2) Only the locked posts (which are mostly of the NSFW variety) will be members-only (just like here and at S_D 1.0). If you really need to see those as well, pony up or wait for an invite.

1) You should be able to comment to SD_Invite anonymously.

2) No. The security settings will remain the same. The only entries that will be locked will be NSFW posts, as has long been our policy. You do not have to pay for a DW account, however you do need an invite code. We will have invite codes available in perpetuity, so all you need to do is ask at SD_Invite and we'll get you set up.

Additionally, DW may be getting rid of invite codes at some point. It's being debated right now.

There's also the dw_codesharing (http://dw-codesharing.dreamwidth.org/) community, which has a bunch of publicly posted invites as well as a post where you can comment anonymously and ask. :)

It'd also be worth noting that we've confirmed that the migrated posts cannot be edited. It was a long shot anyway, but we know it for sure now.

We know some people were disappointed that DW has limited icon spaces, so it's also worth noting that Dreamwidth has recently upped the icon limit for free users from 6 to 15, which is how many you'd have with a paid account on Livejournal.

Not that it changes the fact that DW have jumped to a larger number (which...yay), but at LJ, it's a Plus account that gets 15, a paid one gets 30, and the option to get more.
