JUST realized it's the semiquincentennial this year, and that's why there's a bunch of tone-deaf-seeming patriotic stuff coming out this year

Yeah, it seems pretty awkward all around.

I guess the choices are "Celebrate now and hope it gets better," or "Wait for the next one (which you won't live to see, incidentally)."

Neither sounds great, so it really is a choice.

Not directed at anyone here specifically but the comic is fairly even-handed so IDG the controversy. People elsewhere are acting like this is right-wing propaganda when there are multiple scenes discussing slavery including Captain America talking about slaves enlisting in war after being promised freedom and then being denied. (It's not the main focus but JMS isn't whitewashing the history of America either.)

Meanwhile there are people on YouTube saying this comic is an "unhinged anti-US rant" so it seems like you can't please anyone...

This at least portrays Franklin much more favourable than his behaviour when he published almanacs would indicate.

I’m sure any of the founding fathers could be depicted more negatively if push came to shove.

Maybe, maybe not. It’s a five issue comic series where they’re supporting characters there’s only so much that can be included.
