I like that " Spider-Versity " is happening at Empire State University, the college whose faculty and grad students tend to go on to trying to kill Spider-Man.
"And 3/4ths of the grade for this course is determined by how succesful your plan to terminate that obnoxious wallcrawler is, you simplet... students!"
He did face Ultimate Green Goblin, back in the Ultimate Universe (classic) and again during Saladin Ahmed's run. (even if Ultimate Norman was weirdly demoted to being Evil Miles' goon at the time.)
Nah. One of my favorite tropes is characters who suck at being good, but try anyway. Besides, Willem Defoe's take on Norman as a tragic figure is more interesting than just being an evil lunatic.
I didn't like Doom as Iron Man, but that was because 1) The story should have been about Doom trying to replace Reed and starting his own Fantastic Four. 2) Bendis.
I'm enjoying this. Especially his motivation of "I used to be bad, I deeply regret it, and if I ever go bad again, I want you to be able to survive and/or stop me." It does genuinely feel like an attempt at redemption and his own form of restitution.
Sure, Norman is still walking free instead of life in prison, but we can't have everything and he's also died and been reborn at least what, twice since his worst goblin days? The superhuman legal system is so messily complicated, let's accept he's currently got a blank slate on some levels. And Peter Parker is probably the one most in tune with/involved/has the best grievance, so if -he- accepts Norman is out and about and trying to make amends...
The Spider-franchise isn't bloated or anything but just in the main universe, in addition to Spider-Man, we have... A second Spider-Man Spider-Woman (the original) Spider-Boy Spider-Girl who used to be Funhouse Ghost-Spider who used to be Spider-Gwen and Spider-Woman Silk Arana who used to be Spider-Girl Madame Web who used to be Spider-Woman Chasm who used to be Scarlet Spider who used to be Spider-Man Scarlet Spider who used to be Kaine Spider-Girl the mutant clone of various characters...
And that's not even getting into symbiote or villain territory.
I still don't get why Spider-Gwen (*wince*) is even here in the first place. She's from an alternate universe. Why's she hanging around in someone else's? ... ... it's synergy, isn't it.
Doesn't Chasm also fall into the villain category these days? Or has Nick Lowe eased up on his Ben-hate and allowed him to be the Jason Todd of the Spider-Fam?
Chasm has been more of a neutral lately. He didn't do anything overtly villainous while pretending to be Peter. Jerky and irresponsible, yes, but nothing evil.
Yeah, he's more of the Jason Todd variety at the moment. Wants to be his own man after seeing how awful it is to be Peter. Which is fine by me, as I couldn't stand how whiny he was as a villain.
As for Gwen, I can only figure that Marvel wanted her as a character but didn't want to continue with a series set in another dimension.
