Well. So much for Ben's time pretending to be Peter being harmless.

I think it would be a better story if this had been an accident because of Ben's negligence. If Ben Reilly is Peter without memories, and thus without the memory of losing Uncle Ben, then it makes sense for him to be selfish and irresponsible. That's a potentially interesting direction.

But deliberate sabotage? That's malicious. Ben's still a monster.

It wasn't intented to be sabotage, as far as I can gather. Just Ben including a line basically boiling down to Ben>Peter in the code. Still, intent or not the result is much the same.

I would have thought Ben was smart enough to write coding comments that don't break an entire program.

I think it's safe to say he did more than that. It's easily possible to write in perfectly harmless lines of code that do absolutely nothing into a program. That must have just been his signature, not his only act.

It would have been especially interesting if this mistake helped Ben to realize that his actions have painful consequences even without the memory of Uncle Ben. Maybe he too grew to like Brian and would be horrified at what his actions caused.

Instead it seems that, for some reason, not remembering Uncle Ben has induced some form of sociopathic behavior. As if Uncle Ben is the ONLY reason Peter has empathy at all.

That "Peter and Spider-Man are split into two beings, Spider-Man becomes a warped parody of Booster Gold" Nick Spenser story implies that "empathy" thing. "Spider-Man" doesn't know who Uncle Ben is, so no empathy. Which many fans, including me, don't like.

Peter originally wanted to use his powers to earn money... so he could pay back May and Ben for everything they did for him. Peter didn't even think about fighting anyone. He "beat" Crusher Hogan without hurting him at all.

Eh, it was a bit more complicated than that. They weren't exactly split into two different beings so much as just...divided. They were still two parts of one person and would soon die unless it was reversed. So, when split in half, responsibility and empathy went to Peter. Not quite the same as memory loss.

Yeah, I remember. He grabbed Crusher, jumped up, clung to the wall and basically scared him into giving up. Still though, it did go to his head, hence why he let the robber go. It wasn't his problem. I believe he even told the cop that from then on, he was going to be looking after number one.

Peter just punched a friend-turned-villain with murder intensity. That’s gonna fuck him up psychologically for sure. Because if he killed someone by accident… (again)

I want there to be an issue where a being that feeds on trauma targets Spider-Man and, what starts as a massive feast becomes too much to bear and they explode...and as a side effect, Peter is MILDLY less guilt ridden.

That's almost as insidious as dropping a being that feeds on others infatuation with persons called "Peter" in the Xavier's School.

Oh, so the despair demon known as... D'spayre or whatever?
Yeah, he seems a good fit for that.
Spider-buffet!

That would be hilariously good. D'spayre once tricked the Lord of Fear into inducing global terror to the point that the fear stopped and despair set in. He became more powerful than beings like the Dweller in the Dark and Nightmare as a result. And him focusing entirely on Peter would cause him to explode.

So this seems like a Swamp Thing situation, right? That's not Brian; that's the thing that ate Brian.

I mean, the ship of Theseus thing is about gradually swapping old parts for new similar parts. Human cells do that gradually over time so we're all kinda the ship of Theseus.

But that's not a man, that's a mushroom.

Well, with Swamp Thing, it was just a plant that believed itself to have once been a man named Alec Holland. Nothing but memories. Meanwhile, Alec's body was still rotting in the swamp. So the "ship" is still in one piece. Someone just made a copy out of leaves and vines (which probably don't sail nearly as well)

Between Changes/Disassembled and The Other, Peter is his own grandpa.

If I had a nickel for everytime Peter turned into a horrific Spider-Monster and died giving birth to an exact copy of himself with slightly different powers...
