"[W]hen the chance came up to do an evergreen Doom story - meaning one set not in the immediate present but instead in the not-too-distant past, unshackled from his current status quo - it was really alluring, especially when I was told I could go as big and as crazy as I wanted. In short, this is the fun one: Doom at his absolute Doomiest as he careens his way through a quest through time, rewriting history in his image - all to ennoble and exalt his beloved Latveria. It's fun, it's bombastic, and I can promise some absolute banger Doom moments (and speeches!) in it.” -- Ryan North

First North scripts a story this year where the Leader tries to kill the Hulk by teleporting him to a black hole, and now he scripts a story where Mr. Fantastic tries to deal with Dr. Doom by teleporting him to the Titanic.

I really don't like the way the artist does Doom's armor. It looks like Doom just grabbed some normal suit of armor from any random castle and threw his tunic and cloak over it.

Who is Johnny telling to go in that one panel? It almost reads here like he's telling Doom to go stop Reed...

Given the nature of the story that follows, I'm assuming that Doom will jump into Johnny's place in one of the last two issues of the series, and therefore will be talking to himself.

Yes, but Doom is wise to foolish Richards' attemot to trick Doom by using such reverse psychology!

And why exactly didn't Valeria introduce a clue-by-four to Reed's noggin the moment he started entertaining this idea? Not that you need to be smarter than him to know it's a stupid one.

Reed: "I have an idea to rewrite all of history simultaneously to optimize it towards my idea of a utopian society."
Literally everyone: "Jesus fucking Christ, Reed. NO. Just NO. They're called shower ideas for a reason."

This seems to be a recurring thing (not that kinda Thing) with North at Marvel.
Characters come up with ridiculously stupid, bone-shatteringly poorly thought out ideas, and yet no-one around seems to think there's anything wrong with it, even when they absolutely should.

I mean, this is Reed Richards, who's been doing this since eight o'clock on Day One, but... I dunno... it just feels like North does it even more somehow.
(*adjusts tinfoil hat*)

Never mind Valeria, just someone. Anyone. Don't let Reed get more than halfway through "I've had an idea". Don't give him the chance to convince anyone that this time, it'll be different.

In Reed's partial defense, he DOES describe the idea as "many years off," and when he confronts Doom about it later, he adds that humanity as a whole is not ready to execute it correctly or safely. You may well argue that it could never be done wisely even by the wisest of the wise, but one can at least imagine such a chronal utopia, and at least he wasn't proposing to start work on it the next Friday.

Couldn't he have just kept the idea at the conceptual stage, rather than going and building an actual time machine?

He did.

Doom's the one who built it.

Ohhh. Yeah, that makes more sense.

(Doom. A person to whom the words "thought experiment" are just words.)

Best part is, Doom isn't time travelling physically, it's his mind that's been sent back to the Titanic. With the implication he'll be travelling to other locations across space/time.

"Trapped in the past, Doctor Doom finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap...will be the leap home! |

Not shown here, but I love the page that shows Doom has a special alert set up for whenever Reed makes science news. It’s exactly his brand of petty.
