A merch post? In this economy?
Jun. 9th, 2026 05:29 pmIs this a self indulgent post? Absolutely!
Is it one I regret? Absolutely not!
Yes, the rumours are true and yesterdays Hasbro Pulse livestream confirmed that one of the New Mutants is finally making his debut in true action figure form.

It should surprise no one who knows me to say that I will be getting a couple of these at least (maybe one to customise) since I've long wanted an official New Mutants Cypher. I did try and make one a long time ago... a looooong time ago now given it was pre his eventual return and used a then readily available Jurassic Park 3 figure and an Iceman as the basis
Is it perfect? Well, maybe not, but I am REALLY fussy about Doug, as you might imagine. The face is a little depressed looking (and I wonder if it's based on an actual person as happens in action figure circules), and though it's the classic New Mutants outfit in proper colours (and that's a tough one to beat), the choice of the Warlock sword as an accessory unexpected, since that didn't show up until the "X of Swords" on Krakoa.
I've seen suggestions that maybe we would have gotten a Krakoan Cypher, with Warlock arm etc, but the costs for the new moulds might have made that prohibitive so they popped his head on an X-Men 97 Sunspot body instead.
At least it's not the long rumoured Cypher/Cannonball pack with one body and interchangeable heads, which would have ensured at least one of them looked weird given their disparate body types.
It'll be a target exclusive in the US from September, but not outside the US, so I can hopefully snag them without having to deal with import duty!
In all that only leaves Magma from the "Classic 9" New Mutants to never have had a figure. Given how visually striking her lava form is, that seems surprising.
But for now, I'm just going to enjoy the fact that a Cypher figure now actually exists! :D

Date: 2026-06-09 06:50 pm (UTC)Now just waiting for a suitable base figure to do the other girls from and round out the early lineup, maybe they'll do something similar to the three heads that came with the first Dani Moonstar. And might get (another) Toy Biz Warlock to repaint a bit because I'm definitely not paying aftermarket prices on the BAF one.
