In what would normally be great news for Archie Comics—a Hollywood deal to bring the Archie to the silver screen—has opened up a legal can of worms for co-CEO Jonathan Goldwater. Raven Capital Management claims that Goldwater defaulted on a loan in 2024 giving them control of the intellectual property and the deal with Universal Studios was made without their knowledge.

Hrm. There've been two live-action Archie movies to date. The first was the made-for-TV To Riverdale and Back which I for some reason watched back in 1990. It was clichéd and predictable. The second was the Bollywood big-screen musical The Archies (2023). I haven't seen it but apparently it got "mixed reviews" from both critics and audiences.

All of which is by way of saying, if this would-be Hollywood film never ends up getting made, whether for legal or other reasons, it may be for the best.
