I guess so. The whole Norse pantheon is in an uncertain state, as we’ve seen in Doctor Strange when he returned to Earth, Moonstar when explaining her horse to people, and so on. But of course Hela and Tyr are on the loose and doing Queen in Black stuff.
"I devoured the self that was here in an time long pa-*cough* oh, sorry, don't know what came over me there..."
It does explain a few things over the last eleven issues. (I know this is issue #12, but Blake wasn't in issue #1, was he?)
Devouring a person's entire being and using them as a living body suit. Wonder where Jormungandr got that idea from, Loki.
Before this one came out, was thinking about Blake's role so far, how with Loki having gone morally ambiguous, their part as Thor's sibling turned evil and insane seemed to have been put on Blake not just because of all he went through but because "someone had to do it". (Sort of like how Amora over in Asgard seems to have taken on Original Loki's fondness for plotting, scheming and unlimited power. She's even stealing Movie Loki's lines!) But this came as a bit of a shock...
(also, random thought not related to the twist... what's happened to Jane in all this?)
I think it's kinda the Superman problem. When you have a character so powerful, it's difficult to find ways to keep them relatable. Thor doesn't even have a secret identity anymore. At least Clark keeps Supes grounded in humanity.
Immortal Thor #25, after the thing that causes Sigurd happens: ' The great Serpent - who wore the name of Donald Blake but could never be that again - screamed then.. '
Maybe that was " Jörmungandr + Donald Blake " then, but for Mortal Thor it looks like it's just been " Jörmungandr in Blake-skin ".
In this issue, it is established that no-one knows which is dominant , hence that whole 'dragon dreaming' question; is the wyrm wearing Blake, or has he taken its power?
"When dying Jörmungandr told the tale to Thor, it was a tale of power corrupting.
"Thor was told that Blake had eaten all that Jörmungandr was, and the wyrm's power had mixed with the Odin-power that remained in Blake from his creation.
"And there was truth in that, of a kind.
"But the truth untold was that Jörmungandr had planned it that way.
"The dying self that told Thor his tale was a discarded skin, no longer needed. And who was in the skin the Serpent wore now?
"Was it Jörmungandr with the soul of Blake? Blake with the power and hate of Jörmungandr? Both at once and neither?
"The dream was over... and something had woken up."
