The Spider-Woman 50th Anniversary Special this week sets up her next ongoing.

That's starting this November, written by Dan Watters, who's taking an aggregate approach:

" Jessica Drew never really had a consistent writer during [her] original run.. she had Wolfman, Gruenwald, Claremont, Nocenti, etc. All had different ideas about what a Spider-Woman comic might look like.. [t]aking her from the UK to the West Coast, from monster stories to mystery stories, from a bounty hunter to a private eye.. We'll be pulling on a lot of [that] in this title. "

The anniversary issue set-up handles the weight of her history by being matter-of-fact about her latest status quo.



Jessica's on the roof of the Daily Bugle, telling Ben Urich " The anonymous tip [you passed to me] proved legit.

" I found this. "



" People simply don't tend to look up. "

She did - she found the taken being kept by a monster.



(The kind of monstrous horror's that's been in stories with Jessica before, the organic evocation of 90s Spider-continuity, and a possible Franco Nero reference.)

Spider-Woman and " the Spectacular Spider-Failure ", as she mocked him, fought.

Her powers and their limits were summarized in the course of that.



He got her pinned, though, and then



" He just.. he just slipped? "



She glid away, leaving Ben unsure - and unaware of what'd turned the tide of the fight.



The Carnage symbiote (see Spider-Versity #5) hadn't been what subsequently kicked Nero the spider to his death -



- but Jessica still had words for it.

Eddie Brock was one of the most experienced symbiote hosts in existence. He was the former King in Black, ruler of the entire Klyntar hive. Even he couldn't control Carnage. What the hell makes you think you can?

I'll do you one better. Even if every molecule of Carnage was destroyed, Cletus Kassidy would somehow find a duplicate Carnage in the Negative Zone and everyone would just act like it was the original.

I mean... Cletus fucking Cassidy came back from being ripped in half in space. He came back from being lobotomized. He came back from being exploded by a gene-bomb. He came back from being thrown into space AGAIN. Hell, Carnage recreated Cletus through some stray DNA.

Symbiotes and those who wear them are harder to kill than Deadpool on a bender.
