nevermore999: STEPH IS BATGIRL AND INSPIRATIONAL TO YOUNG GIRLS ISN'T SHE AWESOME (Default)
[personal profile] nevermore999 posting in [community profile] scans_daily
[personal profile] theanswer requested some Batgirl scans from The Web #3...at least, I think she did, the post seems to have been deleted now.

Most of the Steph and Babs action is contained in this preview:

www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php

I'm not sure how in character it is for Steph to be enforcing Oracle's "leave it to the professionals" line here, considering her history. On the other hand, since she believes the Web is a douche and is apparently putting people in danger w/o taking any responsibility for it, it could well be she doesn't consider it to be like her former situation at all. I figure it's acceptable. YMMV.

Anyway, continuing on the preview:

\

On the other hand, Stephanie definitely shouldn't be saying "dude" quite so much. Or at all, really.

"You're old enough to be my father! Who is *also* disgusting and annoying!"

Anyway, Web gets all of the people who bought his suits together and tells them that they're going to follow some rules. There's a fight, and Web turns off the suits and gives an inspirational speech about helping people. Some people say "screw you" and leave, but enough people stick by him that Babs sends Steph over with the software.

Babs and Steph: always here to teach you about software. Next: what to do about that nasty bluescreen problem!

Oh, and I guess this counts as Oracle!pwnage:

And so he doesn't do it. Well, also because "I'm no killer" and "that would make us the same" and all that.

Remember, you can't be a web-based superhero without Babs getting in on that action. That is all.Good day.

Thanks for posting. I was excited that Angela Robinson was going to write Oracle and Steph but this was ... just okay. Still happy to have them show up in other titles.

That was written by Angela Robinson? I liked her film D.E.B.S (both the short and the feature) but this was a bit under whelming.

h ah ah ahaha hahahahah

yes, superhero facebook and twitter. INTEGRAL PARTS OF ORACLE'S SECRET SUPER INTERNET PRESENCE. You know, the one where she's a mythological, not even certain presence.

I almost expected them to "I am spartacus" when they asked about that dude. Who exactly is part that "crowdsourcing" stalkarama group that tracks down Archer for them? Argh.

I haven't read the comic. Is there any indication that Oracle uses the superhero social networking stuff herself? Because reading these scans, it seems like they're for the Web's use, not hers.

Sometimes I try not to be too critical when I haven't read the whole issue but I couldn't even slog through this so I'll never get through the whole thing. Argh. I just read 3 panels and it's... it's as bad as the Damian World's Finest Story. Batgirl installs software now? (For a guy named 'the Web'--but who does not know how the internet works?) Full of spyware? That's how Oracle keeps an eye on people in 2010?

Okay then.

I imagine he's called the Web because of the design of the costume, not because of his computer skills, and he may well be just disconnected enough from the world for him not to notice that there's a connection.

Is this how comicbook writers see Grey hat hackers? Facebook trolls? Is that really what Bab's uses- superhero kisses?

Yeah, sorry, it just lost me. I would expect Babs to lay down some professional shit. Not this... faux facebook/myspace crap that makes me want to choke myself to death. Totally ruined what would otherwise be a cool idea.

Interesting - so DC is finally making use of the altered Archie Comics heroes last seen in its '!mpact' line way back in the '80's or so. (No, that's not a typo - !mpact is how you write it.) If I recall correctly, the old version of the Web was actually a government agency, similar to the CIA or FBI, but with identically-costumed superheroes as agents. This is an interesting twist on that concept, I suppose - instead of Web as in 'Web of spies', this is Web as in 'World-Wide'. I'll reserve judgement until I see where it goes, but I can't say my interest hasn't been piqued. Here's hoping we see 'the Comet' next!

They were last seen in the Red Circle event a few months ago (which is what brings them into the DCU), actually.

And there's no sign of the Comet, yet. We have, so far, Hangman, Shield, Web, and Inferno...the last of whom, I don't recognize. Shield and Web are headliners, with Inferno and Hangman as the respective Second Features. (I'd have reversed Web and Hangman, and used Comet or Jaguar instead of Inferno, personally.) Each of the 4 had a Red Circle one-shot.

None of them particularly resemble the originals, or the !mpact versions.

This is horribly pedantic of me, and I'd probably the only person who noticed or cares, but Steph has been consistently drawn as left-handed in her own series. She's right-handed on this first page.
