I am so loving the art. It really does capture a supernatural woman's mixed emotions of loss, rage and sadness. This image was triumphant and expected. The next one... was a stunning *spoilerific* surprise.

Sucks for the Asgardians, but really, they've been doing everything but explicitly asking for this. Also Thor will have words with Doom in a hopefully kickass fight.

In a sick way, he's kind of done her a favour; her immortality was the thing keeping her from Bill.

I'm not sure how many other ways her story could have ended (assuming this is it), really, since obviously she wasn't going to be allowed to kill Loki.

It would have been nice had she been able to take out Loki. Even if she acknowledged that it most likely wouldn't be permanent (because it never would be) but just a way to get him out of Balder/Thor's way while they dealt with Doom.

Of course, I think they're ignoring Unthinkable less for Doom's Complete Monster actions and more because the P.T.B at Marvel didn't like the idea of Doom: Evil Wizard

While he's back to the classic armour (which one imagines Waid knew would happen), the idea of him as a high-level sorcerer has stuck (it came up during the "Search for the Sorcerer Supreme" arc in NA, for example).

I would just like to add that what made Doom so baddass is his mastery of science and magic. But never the best at either.

Condemning someone to eternal damnation--anyone, old sweetheart, arch-enemy, AN EE WON, after the stuff with his mom--is out of character for Doom.

SCIENCE-ing "alien" beings to learn about them is in character.

Also, I'll be glad to see Thor take centre-stage in his own book again; he appeared in like two page of the last two issues, and most of the JMS run was him getting chumped by Loki's ridiculously obvious ploys.

An evil death can't be meaningful if we don't care about the characters. We didn't care about the Asgardian being dissected, but we do care about Bill and Kelda, so Doom and Loki rise up in our hearts as villains.

They have. He just comes back. This is the guy who got out of *hell*. I don't really think there's any fool-proof way of killing him.

I actually don't feel disgusted by Doom in this one. It's more like a return to form. He's always been the kind who could use technology and magic together. He's always been the one who is able to swat away normal moral and ethical strictures. Because he's Doom, and that gives him the impetus to do so.

That's why in another facet, he is also a benevolent dictator to the Latvian people (something I wish would also be emphasized more these days). He thinks he is beyond the normal concepts of good and evil, and thus he does become, in his way, above both - or a mixture thereof.

It's also why I think he hates Richards so much - Reed is an anathema not only because of their history, but the very way in which Reed [i]is[/i]. And, in a perverse fashion, he knows that Reed also has the capacity to be very much like he is. It's an attraction/repulsion/equality dynamic, which can only end in (subjectively) Doom defeating Richards. Because that's how he sees it.

The Destroyer would have been a toygasm for Doom: a magically powered god-construct. and if he can find out how to become an Asgardian in terms of power (meaning: he wants the Odin-power, essentially) through the Destroyer (remember, for Doom, the Destroyer is just a means to an end - and a very good combat weapon), then so much the better. I would expect, though, that Kelda should have been facing a Doombot, while Doom himself is somewhere else, taking care of more important business. hehe.

It's also worth mentioning that that thing was once used as a herald by Galactus. Doom has a history of making attempts to grab the power of such...
