"The Topper" 1585, 1587, 1589 Combined post

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have now acquired my own scanner, so I may be putting things up more often.

It so happens that I have three issues of "The Topper", June 18, July 2 and July 16 1983. At 7 scans from the 23 story pages in each issue, that's almost an entire issue I can show you.

Since it turns out people don't actually read the carefully crafted cutline jokes, I'll just say

In the June 18th installment, there was a picture of Mr. Zapa thoughtfully stroking his rod while wondering what to do with his teenage boy captives....







Your thoughts and comments? In particular, if you had the opportunity to bring one of these features back in the modern day, which one would you choose?

...dear god, 1983. I'm in England and I'm less than four feet tall. And nobody snickers rudely at "Danny's Tranny" yet.

I say bring back "The Fabulous Whizzers from Planet Ozz", but only if Grant Morrison is writing them. Because that would be hilarious.

ISTR he included the Whizzers in the multiverse arc of Zenith, when he was slaughtering his way through the comics of his youth... Might have been a different group with a similar name, though... Been a while since I read Zenith, longer since I read the annotations.

I don't recall the Whizzers in Zenith nor Danny's Tranny come to that, though he did have General Jumbo meet a desperately unfortunate end.

Like I said, it's been a while. Your memory is better than mine...just skimmed through that arc, and definitely no sign of the Whizzers.

Danny's Tranny was one of the first science fiction comic series I ever remember, such an insane idea, but so cool when you're 6!

And the Whizzers from Ozz bring back some memories! I think I have a little more of them somewhere...

One that I always remember was Jack Silver in the Dandy, a weird looking, bright yellow alien kid who aided by a human friend had to deal with space pirate Captain... drat I can't recall his name. The Captain had a machine that when he scanned a picture into it, would produce what was on the picture, like a sort of super-fax maxhine. And Jack was eventually joined by the Fizzfist. which isn't as kinky as it sounds, but was a seven foot high, two thumbed, robotic hand (JUST the hand) on a gyroscopic unicyle wheel/sphere (It got it's name because it was fuelled by fizzzy drinks).
