In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

To address the elephant in the room, POTUS 45 has unleashed an outrageous, openly racist tirade at four Democratic Congresswoman; Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib. Calling them ... well you can look the exact phrases up for yourself if you want, but I'm not going to repeat them.

Criticism came in from basically every democractic country going, but when challenged on his statements he doubled down, made further comments and claimed it wasn't racist and that he wasn't going to apologise because people agreed with him.

The women in question, three born in America, one a naturalised citizen have, with admirable restrains, called his statements a distraction from his own failed policies. "This is simply a disruption and a distraction from the callous chaos and corrupt culture of this administration, all the way down," said Ayanna Pressley..

Perhaps more despicable is the general silence from senior members of the Republican party, who either don't want to earn Trump's ire being turned on them, or are hoping that it will stir up more votes for them, despite being fully aware of how inappropriate the comments were.

There is a suggestion that Trump's claims are a deliberate move not only to satisfy his own far=Right wing base, but also to appeal to a portion of the Democratic voters, who also find the women in question to be TOO controversial and opinionated.

The next face on the English £50 note will be Alan Turing, the brilliant mathematician whose work was instrumental in Allied codebreaking during WWII, and who then, despite making further advances in fields that would eventually become computer science as we now know, went on to face disgrace because he was also a homosexual, which was still a criminal offence at the time, and it is believed he committed suicide as a result of the stress.

In happier celebratory news, it's 50 years to the day since the launch of Apollo 11, taking the first human beings to the moon!

I am assured by those who follow it, that the Cricket World Cup was an extraordinarily good game of sportsball. So.. well done to the English team for... scoring more thingies.

If you thought Jodie Whittaker's casting as the Doctor caused ructions in certain, mostly predictable, quarters, just imagine the fuss when the announcement was made that the next 007 will be... Lashana Lynch. The actor, best known for her role as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel, will not be James Bond, but after his retirement, she will be assigned his 00 number (even when he's called back to action). I'm hoping she will retain the title moving forward, but we shall see.

The first six episodes of Netflix Knights of the Zodiac drop on Friday and we have a longer trailer which introduces the new English dubbed theme.

We’re losing the “hundred small orphaned children (also possibly all sons of Misumasa Kido depending on which version you follow) being sent out to risk their likes in the hope of gaining a Cloth with a 90% fatality rate”? Thank Athena for THAT! (I can only watch the original by assuming that the other 90 kids ran like hell first chance they got and went on to live happy, successful, lives far away from the Kido family machinations)

Seiya is now a skatebaording street kid who presumably is sent off as a teenager to earn his cloth? Okay, I can live with that.

Ikki is still the villain of the first arc? Good.

Shaun doesn't get a single line of dialogue in this trailer?  Not so good.

For those who read digital comics, Comixology is having a huge sale on Sandman. DC is doing a 60% off sale for their titles for SDCC and there was a preexisting Sandman sale going on so in effect most of the Sandman universe is at 85% off. (You need to use the code DC60 to get the full deal). Most of the trades and omnibuses are being sold at two dollars.

The sale is here.

This just finished, and while I'm not sure how well liked Linkara is around here, it's Cass, so I thought it was worth posting.

"Saviour was the template for everything that was going to come. You know, because it’s politics, it’s religion, it’s superheroes, it had hyper-violence, and it was unpleasant, and I realised it was kind of like the seeds which became my career."

- Mark Millar
