My seven-year-old son, his favorite superhero is Ice. It's his favorite superhero in the whole world. Every day at dinner, throughout this whole pandemic, we talked about — I'm writing constantly, and what are you writing for the day? And my son always says, 'Why aren't you working with Ice? When are you going to do Ice? Please do Ice.' So when I came up with this premise, which involved a murder and suspects, I decided that the suspect should be part of the JLI, just so I could put Ice in the book... -- Tom King

Mod Post: Off-Topic Tuesday

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

I hope that festive celebrations were held to the maximum extent allowed/preferred and that social encounters were enjoyed/endured/successfully avoided. depending on circumstance and preference.

The world is busy being the world, so let's leave it at that from me, and you can bring up matters as you see fit.

Tumblr is going through another weird alteration as users of it's IOS version are finding that certain tags are now banned, in order to ensure that their app is avaiable from the Apple stores. Though Tumblr staff won't release the lsit of banned tags themselves, users have been experimenting to find out, and the choice of some of the tags would balmost e funny if not so weird. the tag "Girl" is now not allowed, nor is "my stuff", "nsfw" and "long post".

Though I will not that it's been a sad couple of weeks for pop media fans: Mark Taylor, designer of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe toys, died aged 80.

Derrick Wyatt, who was a princple chaarcter designer on series like Teen Titans, Transformers Animated and Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated also passed away.

In the world of science though, monster movies might have been given an upgrade. Will the use of computer assisted tomopgraphy to allow scientists to scan mummies without unwrapping them, lead to digital hauntings? Discuss

Well, this will be the last Off-Topic Tuesday of 2021, and I have to say that I, for one, will be glad to see this particular time unit through the metaphorical rear view mirror.

Oh, and just to note, that between now and the year end, we'll be making some discussion posts for "Best of 2021" because even if the world has not been at it's most whimsically delightful, we have had some VERY good comics.

Poison Ivy: Thorns by Kody Keplinger and Sara Kipin is an elseworld for younger audiences, featuring Pamela Ilsey as an elegant and mysterious teen girl who hides a disturbing secret. The comic is a gothic novel with a contemporary setting and in a contemporary medium. Especially the illustrator, Sara Kipin, makes an amazing work of conveying so much athmosphere and additional layers of meaning with her art. Her art style is not only disctinct, resembling old school manga of the 60s and 70s, but also cinematographic in nature. It's rare to see someone so talented in the medium. Below I include the scene in which the audience discovers Pamela's secret alongside Alice Oh, a girl who lives with her. If you liked Crimson Peak, you will certainly enjoy the comic as well! 12 pages out of crirca 120.
