We all know Luke Cage and Danny Rand (the Immortal Iron Fist) as one of Marvel's bros, but do we all know how they first met?



Don't mind my sing-songy summary up there.

Power Man #48 literally starts with Luke Cage busting through Danny's wall like the koolaid man and getting into a scuffle with Colleen Wing.



Before she gets knocked out, she calls Misty and interrupts her date with Danny. Misty arrives on the scene first and Luke takes her out. And then...



Danny punches Luke through several buildings (and he loses his shirt in the process; a running gag in Power Man). Luke comes back and they battle it out.





Luke almost kills Danny, but stops at the last second. He explains to Danny, Colleen, and Misty later on when everyone is settled that the Bushmaster is holding Claire (love interest) and Dr. Burstein (the man who changed him) hostage. Bushmaster also has the only records that can prove Power Man's innocence. Iron Fist and the gang decide to help out Power Man in Issue #49 (the last issue of the Power Man run).

They break into Bushmaster's HQ and Luke confronts Bushmaster himself.

Then we have the beginnings of bromantic understanding.





When the smoke clears, Misty appears! With the evidence!





And thus concludes Power Man. Next: Power Man and Iron Fist!

With all that said and done, have Danny with a random puppy.

I had this stuff when it came out -- I was lucky enough to latch onto Iron Fist from the very beginning -- and a couple of years ago I found both the Essential Iron Fist and the Essential Power Man/Iron Fist vol. 1, which are somehow both period pieces and timeless. Great, great stuff. I'm not sure who had the idea to put those two together, but the chemistry was and is fantastic.

I need to post some scans of Claremont and Byrne on Iron Fist. It's really remarkable to watch Byrne develop as an artist; he gets noticeably better practically from issue to issue. You also get the development of Daniel Rand as a character and some great guest appearances (IF fights Cap, and there's the introduction of Sabretooth).
