Don't worry though, things quickly don't go according to that plan. Delphene and Athena however both remain completely badass and completely in character...
I really don't know where you're coming from on this. Marvel's been publishing this kind of thing for years.
Incredible Hercules was at least as good as this and we've been talking about it since 2006. Before that, there was Marvel Adventures stuff, Ultimate Spider-Man, Runaways...
I think most of us consider this a continuation of the Incredible Herc story. Because in every way that matters it is, same creative team, just a different title and numbering... there wasn't even a publishing lapse between the end of Incredible Herc, Fall of an Avenger, and Prince of Power... it is all the same story.
However this series, going back to 2006 had been an anomolous blindingly bright fun spot amid Marvel's main continuity titles (which Marvel Adventures and USM are not... and Runaways is anything but consistantly published.)
And as soon as Marvel notices they're getting more popular than the big names, they tend to do something horrible to the main characters to make them darker and edgier.
If you want to say that this is the 616 "fun book" and we could use some more of that, sure, I'm down.
If you want to say that this is the only fun book Marvel publishes, like Arilou is saying, then you're really discounting an awful lot of their output. What they don't have are consistently fun ongoing titles, and as the Colonel says, the sales unfortunately bear that out.
Fortunately, stuff like Power Pack apparently does really well in the bookstore market, so it'll keep going. The demented minds that gave us Baby Ray Bill will continue to do similar things.
Delphyne Gorgon. Former commander of the 6th Themiscyran Phalanx. Deposed Queen of the Amazons. Amadeus Cho's ex-girlfriend. Her mission in life is to kill the goddess Athena for creating the Gorgon curse (it is genetic). She also pwned Marvel's Wonder Woman stand in.
Well she was queen of the Amazons. Even if Marvel's Amazons are perfectly modern clothes wearing para-military badasses... a queen gets to have some indulgences... like a drawer full of scrunchies.
scrunchies at like pens. they like to hide and disappear on you. Typically right when you need one. Result=buying lots and lots of scrunchies(has drawer full of hair toys and still can't find a scrunchie when I need one)
Seriously, I've bought like 30 ponytail holders for my daughter in the past year and a half and I only know where about three or four of them are.
On-topic, now: I so regret not following this series from the beginning. It's kind of pointless to start now, since it's only a 4-parter (right?). When does it come out in trade? Also, what comes after this series?
She'd need a meteor hammer and crippling psychosis before she was Go-Go. Right now, she is, for whatever reason, a total badass who rolls up in the tweed.
It's a pretty good choice. You _can_ holster them, unlike most submachine pistols. The slide's good, it's an open bolt gun, and I can't think of a bad word about their reliability. Also, they can be reliably used one-handed, if you've got the muscle.
Only for about ten minutes, when Athena got temporarily petrified during the War on Olympus arc. When Athena took up the thunderbolt at the end of that, Delphyne went back to "normal."
Nit pick. Japanese steel isn't all that. That's why the Japanese sword smiths developed such complex techniques to strengthen the blade to compensate for weaker steel.
