I must confess, this is not my idea nor my scans, but with One Moment In Time occurring right now, the ComicBookResources discussion thread had a valid point. Joe Quesada gave a lengthy interview and the pages behind the cut came up under the talk. Thought I should share.

No. I would say that "Bruce" showed up just to give the reader a little anxiety about whether or not Mary Jane would settle down and marry Peter. I don't think that she did anything with Bruce.

But whatever. I could be wrong, but I just don't really care. The whole idea is silly.

See, that reads to me more as Bruce going for a last ditch effort to win MJ, and she realizes that, no, she prefers Peter and turns him down. Bruce decides to be a good loser and lets her have the tickets/villa anyways, since he got them for wooing her in the first place.

Maybe we're meant to think that MJ is a terrible red-haired slattern for worrying that turning down the rich actor chasing her for a frequently penniless and always in danger superhero wasn't the best move in the world? Meanwhile Peter worrying that maybe he should dump MJ for the dead girl is just a sign of his chivalry and purity of heart?

(And I'm going to assume it's the MU's version of Bruce Wayne, whose parents retired to a small island while he put his knack for disguises and physical gifts to work as an actor with the help of his butler and agent Alfred. Why? Because it amuses me.)

Yeeeeep. Also, I'm sorry, if THIS implies that Mary Jane slept with Bruce, then it's now a certainty that Peter Parker slept with Betty Brant while she was married. But you'll never hear the Brain Trust bringing that up, oh no.

Now that I've actually seen the scans, I'm not sure why Quesada thinks that's meant to be Bruce Wayne. Why would Wayne be "flying back to LA for retakes"? Sounds like it's supposed to be some famous actor...Bruce + actor + 80s = Bruce Willis?

this is an extremely personal pet peeve, but I HATE it when people draw the top of the Brooklyn Bridge wrong. I've been on top of the bridge many, many times. It's strongly sloped -- there's absolutely no ledge like the one depicted.

In other news, I can't take this seriously. Michelinie is a terrible writer and I can't see MJ messing around on the eve of her wedding. Sure, maybe, but really? No.

It might well be but he's clearly on the Brooklyn there -- note the WTC to the right. The only way that would be possible would be the Brooklyn or the Manhattan Bridge, and that ain't the Manhattan.

Well, the issue is that Paul Ryan is working from John Romita Sr's depiction of the bridge because that's what Spidey fans will recognize. It's more important that the bridge be recognizeable as the bridge where Gwen Stacy died than that it match up to either the Brooklyn or George Washington bridges accurately.

Which, admittedly, they drew wrong at the time too.

But it doesn't change anything. A mistake enshrined is still a mistake. Liefeld drew the WTC as a single featureless pyramid but that won't make me draw it that way.

I haven't read this in a while but I certainly did not get the impression that MJ slept with him at all. And I am one of those people that likes to find little hidden nuggets in things. I think we were meant to be scared into thinking she was gonna ditch Spider-Man and that was all. I saw her coming back as showing that she did indeed choose Peter over some suave billionaire. And that was all. Geez Marvel, I mean really wacha doin???
