So it was discussed and this place Really needs more Mia. Like right now. So I think I'm going to post the History of Mia Dearden. Because she's awesome.
So it starts out in Green Arrow #2, a regular night in Star City, some people are having a party and in walks a girl (a fifteen year old girl, yeah fifteen), and this security guy asks her if she's what Richard sent, and refers to her as 'the package' then he throws her into a room.

And then Green Arrow comes in all bamf and he's all "I'd like to register a complaint"

Then he gives Mia a card to a community center and Mia leaves. Ollie kicks the Mayors ass and now moving on.

And Mia runs away. Next we see her in Green Arrow #3

Next we see Mia and Stanley Dover talking about why Ollie is the way Ollie is.

And next time I'll have something else I haven't got it set up or anything so we'll see what it is. It'll be a surprise for us all. But who cares Mia is a good surprise for everyone! She's my favorite character for a lot of reasons and there need to be more of her on here so here. Also I've said it before maybe Ollie hasn't been a good father/mentor to other people (Roy & Connor) but he's actually really good with Mia for the most part. :) I like them.

Date: 2010-09-15 02:36 pm (UTC)I liked her interactions with Stanley Dover in Quiver too, particularly the Powerpuff girls scene -- well, I should say I liked their interactions until it was revealed he was evil and was abusing his grandson, etc.....

Date: 2010-09-15 02:49 pm (UTC)Yeah I agree before all of that was revealed I liked them too.

Date: 2010-09-15 06:42 pm (UTC)I've been warming to her for a while, and from the look of these scans it looks like I'll be continuing to do that. I like her no-nonsense "Ollie, of course you're GA - look at that beard" (I actually wondered myself why nobody realized his identity right away after both Ollie and GA went from looking like this to the way he does here. I also like her assertive attitude and straight-to-the-point talking with Ollie - especially "That little mask you wear doesn't exactly Batman your face" ♥.
In short, I'm looking forward to the rest of your History of Mia posts and I'm glad you're doing them. :)

Date: 2010-09-15 07:13 pm (UTC)And you're right I think her attitude and personality is obviously one of the things that makes her such a great character and I think it's one of the reasons I think her and Ollie work so well together, it's pretty much exactly what he needs in a partner.

" Yeah? Who d'ya think you are with something like that, the Batman? "
Shame about Stanley Dover, though; his real plan wasn't the best, though I'd like to think that might've been the point.
(he was, after all, just a crazy old man with some money, arcane interests, and an imaginative grandson.)

Date: 2010-09-15 07:19 pm (UTC)Yeah I mean until you get to that point everything seems sweet but then he turns out to be a creep. Oh well.

"Don't try to fool me! I've gone up against Count Vertigo!"
Later in QUIVER, Batman commented how Ollie was talking like "a walking anachronism."

Date: 2010-09-15 08:33 pm (UTC)In the beginning of Mia's conversation with Richard, she seems almost convinced that he likes her, but then she does a complete 180 and calls him out for being the abusive pimp he is. So was she faking the whole time? Why choose now to call him out, because she got the card? A smart girl like Mia would have found her "outs" before she had to literally be handed one by a "costume"...

Date: 2010-09-15 08:47 pm (UTC)Considering she was a fifteen year old girl who had been abused by her father since she was little, then ran off and had no one except Richard who manipulated her into believing he loved her, so he could get what he wanted from her. I'd say she's probably more scared then faking. I'm pretty sure she believed her options were that or live on the streets where who knows what could happen to her. And from what it's says here this isn't the first time she had brought it up, she'd probably brought it up a lot of times before but he used the whole "I thought you loved me" thing. Just because she's smart doesn't mean they're above getting fooled, or manipulated, or worse by people who she had put her trust in and thought she loved because that's what he wanted, so she'd go out and turn tricks for him.

Date: 2010-09-15 08:59 pm (UTC)She calls him out here because Ollie empowered her by giving her the card. Someone heroic noticed her, pointed out that her situation wasn't right and told her that she had the power to change it. Sometimes you need that outside affirmation as a final boost before you take action.

A lot of smart girls end up trapped in abusive situations, particularly if they've had a life like Mia's. Smart really has nothing to do with it.

Date: 2010-09-15 08:51 pm (UTC)Since he's now in the Star City Forrest, it *seems* Ollie is back down to broke again, but I don't know the details.

Date: 2010-09-15 10:42 pm (UTC)Also I gotta bring up the Young Justice animated series, anyone else noticed how the costume looked like a green version of one of Arsenal's old costumes and assumed that Mia will become a female version or Arsenal but under the name Artemis?.... Or maybe that's just my train of thought.
no subject
Date: 2010-09-15 10:43 pm (UTC)Meant to say "female version of Arsenal."
no subject
Date: 2010-09-15 10:56 pm (UTC)And that isn't her in the YJ cartoon, they said it wasn't her, it wasn't Arrowette, and I'm pretty sure they said it isn't the Amazon Artemis either, but it was a character that existed. I don't know who it is. Someone suggested Tigress who is a villain but this is a different universe, and her name IS Artemis and she is an Archer. I don't know though.

Date: 2010-09-15 11:04 pm (UTC)Oh I already know it's not Mia in the cartoon, just saying initially I had that thought or it's an idea DC will run with later in comics. As for this Artemis, I'm trying to figure out who she is myself. Not sure about the Tigress suggestion.

Date: 2010-09-15 11:28 pm (UTC)I have no idea who she's going to be, they said they didn't just make her up, and I can't see them randomly taking a character who isn't an archer and making them one. I don't know. Maybe it's female Connor from the Gender-switch world. I have no idea.
