I actually caught the early advance showing this Wed, but it's opening around the world today/tomorrow right?

Anyway, some call it a movie length trailer, but I honestly thought the whole thing was incredibly refreshing. The direction of the movie mirrors the book, but it definitely finally feels that it's a world where the adults aren't just overgrown children, which is pretty much the problem I had with trying to read the later books after Goblet of Fire.

That's right, I never really payed any more attention to the books after a certain point. It was mostly cause I had grown out of the age-set, and the books' tone never really did. So yeah, I went into Deathly Hallows almost completely blind (I read up to a certain point, but that was less than half the movie).

So from a person with a bit of knowledge from browsing Wikipedia, I'd say it was a great movie, very exciting, love the much much much more serious and menacing tone, I sorely wish I could see the whole movie now instead of 6 months later :(

Also for legality, behind the cut: Jason Issacs, with stubble :3 (no spoilers, just him being sexier than usual) and for REAL legality, a comic of sorts.

Saw it last night. I really enjoyed it.

I think my favorite part was the whole Ministry bit.

Probably the most depressing one so far, though. I cannot wait until part two.

I thought that they would butcher the book, but they managed to keep all the vital things and not loose any momentum builds up. I am glad that they did break it up into two movies, as everything felt vital and true to the story. Nothing was in excess or nothing missing. Everything was tight.

And speaking of "tight", I had a great experience at my midnight showing. Lots of members of the GLTB community at my theater (college campus) showing last night. The scenes when Daniel Radcliff was in his skivvies made SO many men in the crowd drool and purr, and me and the ladies swooned at some scenes with Hermoine.

Ah yes (gay guy here), something about the muscles on the actor who plays Ron gives me the hots. I love red heads. I wish CSUN (university I currently attend) had that kind of LGBT representation in the community.

I like to think of myself as level headed about stuff I fanboy over. I don't get into shipping wars and generally find it idiotic.

Despite that I fucking hate Ron Weasly and find Ginny to be boring as fuck so I sort of hate the last book a little bit.

The final two books had a lot of problems, yes. That's why, though I still love it and consider it a truly classic series, it falls short of the two giants of the genre, the Alice books and Lord of the Rings.

As for Ginny... Almost every straight guy in the real world preferred Hermione and Luna, smart, complex, strong, intersting, and the folks you want backing you up in a magical fight.

My HP OTP is, in fact, Hermione/Luna. None of the boys in the series were really worth their time. :)

Some of the movies have improved in the books in some ways, at least in terms of making the stories "more cinematic." Quirrell actually crumbling to dust at the end of "Sorcerer's Stone" is a good example.

Personally, I thought DH was missing two thing: (1) The Redemption of Draco Malfoy, as it seemed to me JKR was trying to making Draco not *that* bad for the series. (2) A Better Plan for Voldemort. Something beyond Mastering Death and Enslaving The Muggles. Maybe it's too much like EARTH X or "The Incredibles" but I had hoped/wished Voldemort's master plan was to allow ALL muggles to start having witches and wizards as children (explaining his interest in muggle-borns and half-bloods).

I don't know if that makes sense. For me, Voldemort was always an evil monster who used his hatred of "mudbloods" as a crutch for his own shortcomings. He himself is a half blood so he overcompensates for this supposed awfulness by declaring that all half and non pure bloods are disgusting. He's a coward at heart, he fears death and the major reason he wants immortality isn't for a life lived forever destroying muggles but because he's absolutely terrified of dying.

He's a big fucking baby who got enough power to actually be utterly dangerous. He reminds me of Big Jim Rennie from Under the Dome. A person who is totally weak inside, so he compensates buy being pure evil outside.

I think the biggest disappointment to me in DH (a lot of stuff happened I didn't care about, but that's something else) is the absence of redemption for Slytherin as a whole. What is the point of the House if every single person in it is so truly evil they'll flee the school to fight beside Voldemort? Hogwarts was supposed to a place where people mix, mingle and learn (the whole subplot in the Golet of Fire) and yet it seems Slytherin were entirely irredeemable.

Other Hogwarts houses had unpleasant people in them, why couldn't we have the inverse and have someone from Slytherin be brave and upstanding enough to side with the school (even if it was because, at some level, they believed that Voldemort would lose and they didn't want to be on the losing side), or someone who joined because they were naturally gifted at Potions and they had the best reputation for that, but didn't hold with the general code.

I hope you're right. I quit the Harry Potter film series a long time ago, only buying/seeing the films after they were on used sales racks or garage sales. HP and the Goblet of Fire has to be the worst offender of the lot. Choppiness, missing key parts (such as Dobby giving Harry the plant) and again THE CHOPPINESS. Loved the Prisoner of Azkaban though. Still undecided on whether i should spend my money on seeing this one.

Shortened it to a sense of "bleak desperation" of not having clue one of what to do and how to do it, but yeah it is still there.

I think it's vital, as the kids overcome their issues instead of giving up and being trapped by frustration.

As to the scene by the stream hermoine and her family visited, if she had asked ME to just hide away with her at the lakeside and grow old with her, I would have said yes.

Any particular reason why? It at least attempts to show that wizards have improved a bit from being the generally utterly obnoxious condescending bastards from the other books (Their "Oh look at the funny little Muggles with their eccentric ways, thank heavens we're better than them" and general treatment of other species drove me nuts)

Seems like he's channeling Julian Sands, circa the Warlock films. That's always a good way to score some bonus points.
