I've been reading Walt Simonson's run on Thor, and amidst all of the EPIC AWESOME, here is a small scene from the end of issue 354 that made me grin like an idiot.


All you need to know for this is that when Beta Ray Bill got Stormbreaker, Odin transferred the spell from Mjolnir that turned Thor into Don Blake onto Stormbreaker so that Bill would be able to wear a less intimidating form around his own people. Don Blake thus effectively ceased to exist. Cut to a few months later...







ETA: That's Fandral, by the by, not Thor. I would actually pay quite a lot to see Thor with a moustache like that.

Simonson's run on Thor is as close to perfection as any comic is ever going to get.

of course I believe JMS retconned this into a majorly tramatic experience for Jane Foster and used it to bash Brand New Day's status quo.

You mean the bit where she got merged with Sif and then ended up discorporated for a while? She wasn't around for this bit -- she'd gone off and got married by this point.

no, there was some thing during his run where Jane and Don meet. She'd divorced and she wondered if she was insane at times, because she just couldn't forget him.

Wasn't there something about Odin using a doctor named Keith Kincaid as a "template" for Don Blake? Every time they mention Don Blake I think about that, but I understand stuff about the "real" Don Blake can get VERY convoluted.

There WAS a real doctor named Keith Kincaid, who Jane ended up marrying, having a kid with, and divorcing. If I recall correctly he had been Blake's mentor, but I don't know if Odin based Blake on him originally.
