Posted these images on the old site, with a lot of text that's gone now, and I'm just too tired and cranky to try to retype.

This was the first attempt to expand on the "origin" Miller came up with, and it introduced "Maggie," Selina's sister. This was retconned out of continuity later, but then Brubaker brought "Maggie" back in order to have her tortured and forcefed sliced-up parts of her husband. I'm not a fan of Brubaker's Catwoman.

A nun finds her.

Selina wakes up in a hospital.

Selina goes back to Stan, her pimp.

We get the Year One stuff where Bruce runs into Stan.

Selina takes the fetish costume that Stan had given her.

Selina finds her sister, Maggie. Maggie's a nun now.

Stan kidnaps Maggie. Sometimes he ties her up, sometimes he doesn't.

There's a fight, Stan pushes Maggie.

Batman shows up.

Batman wants to know if Stan fell or was pushed. Selina isn't telling.

Having fun making sense of Selina's origin stories: you can make fit YO and HSK, or YO and the Moench one, but not Moench and HSK.

I'm trying to not be creeped out that she took the fetish suit her pimp wanted her to wear, and failing.

Batman wants to know if Stan fell or was pushed.
That reminds this Jason Todd fan some nice memories. The Selina-Jason similarities keep piling up. I'll be over there with my OTP of Bruce/Jason and squeeing.

... well, silver lining, this did indirectly and eventually give us Selina/Ted, which I've always found to be a fun friendship/flirtation.

That a relationship I adore THAT much started in this vile, misogynisitic, shitpile actually makes me EVEN ANGRIER.

Heh. I get you. I feel similarly about Oracle and TKJ.

Oh comics. Why must you hurt us?

I just...what's interesting about whores again? I've now doubt there are plenty of individuals who have been/are prostitutes that are interesting people, but I feel like I've read this story a million times and that it could star a lot of people (though not really Selina as she exists in my mind). Especially with stuff like the inclusion of a nun for a madonna and whore.

Yes, that is what it seems like. It just plays so generically to me--or like you say here, that it's just Miller's favorite scenario grafted onto the character without seeing anything there in the character as she exists that needs to be worked with. (And then it's the scenario that gets fleshed out rather than Catwoman.) I see this woman getting abused and humiliated by people she thinks are sick, but nothing in this story would ever make me look at this person and say she was defined as "thief." Which it's hard for me to imagine her not starting off doing at a very early age and having as a profession by this age, even if she wasn't a master at it yet.

Is Stan an albino or something? His ethnicity was pretty vague in YEAR ONE.

Compared to this piece of utter shit, everything Miller has ever written in his entire career is The Feminine Mystique crossed with The Vindication of the Rights of Women, with a dash of SPARTAAAA! Compared to this, Carlton's run is gold, and the weirdest parts of pfieffers are threatenedplottwistbabytastic, and when I think to myself there's a bad Catwoman story, I remember that this existed. It doesn't help me, it just reminds me that while I'm staring into another abyss, I once stared into the Marianas Trench of Horror, and it looked back into me and a part of my soul died.

And that's all I can even bring myself to say about it that isn't garbled swearing.

From what I have seen here yet, about Catwoman origins, I still like Tim Burton's Catwoman origins most. link to fan trailer over Catwoman from Batman Returns (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yRo5chgIcE)

Wow. Wow. I don't even know what to say about this.

"Even whores have rights." My jaw just dropped. Did I actually read that? Holy shit. Zhinxy, you're right. Frank Miller does look like Gloria Steinem in comparison. Wow.

Remember when I said.. ."if comic book creators thought like that (insert dumpster misogynistic statement here), what does that say about them?"

Well, this is exactly that. I mean I know that's the character, but why is a cop yelling at a prostitute to press charges? I mean even police officers should be offended by this. They do take sensitivity training ... despite not always being the most sensitive.

Female characters STILL have such a long way to go. When is it that Babs may not face rape on the street? (Oracle: The Cure #2)
And we're handing this to our little girls? (And if I do have little girls, I don't think I will be handing them this).
