We've seen a fairly dark look at an unmasked Andrew Garfield, but here's how Spidey himself is going to look in the reboot.



While I'm not calling "blasphemy" like some have, I do think it's pointless, if only because the original costume was fine as it is. The original design is so iconic that I don't think people are going to begrudge them if it looks similar to the Raimi costume.

Like I said on my site, it's like they said "Hey, let's take a classically designed, streamlined, easily identifiable outfit, and just RUIN IT with weird stripes, odd colored lenses and wraparound MMA gloves!"

I don't have so much of an issue with Garfield's build, as he's spot-on for that early Spidey. The suit is worrisome though; my current theory is that maybe, just maybe, this is only the suit he gets as a wrestler, and once he quits that he'll redesign something more akin to the classic. Not that they shouldn't consider a redesign/update, I'm fine with things changing, but my God, this is wretched.

NO! I REALLY HOPE we don't get another origin story. We did it already. Just do what they did in the last Hulk movie and toss it in the credits.

Yeah, I try not to judge much with movie stuff before the studio releases photos or I actually see the movie or whatever, but I think I have to agree with you here. The suit is just...so not right in many places. The weird stripes and the metal things (what are those?) on his feet and even the coloring is just making me go bleh. Kind of sucks after seeing on set photos from movies like Thor and Captain America and being like, "Those costumes are sweet!" and then seeing Spidey and being like, "Wut."

Eh. Still has the feel of the classic red/blue costume. It's got some strange details, but still looks recognizably Spider-Man.

...I think I used to own a pair of shoes almost exactly like that, before I wore them out by wearing them constantly (they were so comfortable and versatile! they were what I wore instead of tennis shoes for ages before I discovered Converses, because I can't stand athletic shoes that aren't plain cloth tops). I think they were from Famous Footwear, though, not Payless. Dead serious.

It does, doesn't it? I actually thought it looked quite a bit like his costume and wondered if maybe the designers were looking at the wrong comics when they made it. lol.

I've gotta say that on the MTV site, I love the person who commented, "Come on guys didn't you know that's the Olympic Spider man. He is running towards his Bobsled."

Seriously. That's exactly what it looks like.

Speedskating was the first thing that came to mind for me, but bobsled is even better.

Meh, can't say I'm thrilled about the red-tinted goggles (although they don't look so bad here compared to another version of this photo floating around) but it's not that bad. Still recognisably Spidey. I'll wait to see it on the screen before screaming bloody murder.

Are the lenses actually red-tinted? Here it looks to me like they're just picking up some reflections of the red in the suit.

I'm not thrilled by it, but I'm willing to wait to see the film before passing final judgment. Apparently the super-saturation of the colors is so it looks good in 3D -- that might also have influenced the way the lines of the suit have been tweaked. I've seen some commenters suggest that the silver foot bits are actually an overshoe to protect an (expensive) costume from damage on set.

I like the mask much, much more than the Raimi version, whose proportions have always seemed every so slightly off to me -- this one looks very Romita-esque.

The "red" lenses look like white lenses with light reflections.

I still don't get why this is being rebooted so damn soon. The Tobey Maguire films are both less than a decade old (oh, sorry, all three of them. I try to forget Spider-Man 3), does anyone really need a reboot of the franchise?

Well,

A.) Spider-Man 4 fell through.
B.) Sony needs to make a Spider-Man film lest the rights fall back to Marvel studios
C.) It's a profitable franchise that needs whoring
