Marvel's 2011 Spider-Man Teaser From ASM #654.1 (spoilers)

The "Point One" issue for Amazing Spider-Man (#654.1 in this case) came out today. And even though these point one issues are supposed to be "jumping on issues" for newer readers who want to get into a comic book series, this issue was about Spider-Man at all but really all about Flash Thompson's first stint as the new Venom (um, whose book is this supposed to be again, Marvel?)

However, in a two page spread drawn by Stefano Caselli, we get a glimpse of what Amazing Spider-Man writer, Dan Slott, has in store throughout the course of the year:




So let's see, we have Eddie Brock, formerly Venom and now Anti-Venom, apparently killed by Mr. Negative; Norah Winters finally being seduced by Phil Urich, a.k.a. the new Hobgoblin (or is she playing him?); a team-up with Spidey, Flash Thompson/Venom, and Black Cat against the new Sinister Six (and remember, Flash and Felicia used to be a couple); and...

Mary Jane getting Spider-Man like powers? WTF?!

Agreed. Although the question is exactly HOW did Peter give MJ Spider-powers...if he actually did, that is? Fortunately, I don't think this is the result of anything similar like what happened to MJ in "Spider-Man: Reign." I mean, I'd like to see Peter and MJ get back together as a couple, but there are limits. :D

I think she's adhering with her back (see how flat against the wall it is?), not her feet, which are just stabilizing her into a more comfortable and natural-under-the-circumstances position (they can reach the narrow ledge a little under her, but that both lacks drama and isn't as comfortable with her back that firmly to the wall). Alternatively: you may have something there.

And seriously by this point..Marvel..you're fooling no one, put MJ and Peter back together because this thing with Carlie is not working out and that's on you because more and more you prove the very strong chemisty that MJ and Pete share.

How about this theory for how Mary Jane could have acquired spider-powers? Remember how in "One Moment in Time" the mindwipe was a combination of Dr. Strange's magic and Tony Stark's Extremis nanovirus? Well, prior to Peter taking MJ into the protective sphere, she was being exposed to the mindwipe spell, which means she was being exposed to Extremis. And Peter had to physically leave the protective sphere to take her into the bubble, thus also exposing himself to Extremis. Thus, due to this physical contact, the Extremis virus was able to copy and replicate Peter's spider powers and transfer them over to MJ. Which means MJ, ever since OMIT has had these powers all this time and didn't even know. IT would also doubly explain what happened to the powers Peter acquired during "The Other: Evolve or Die" and his organic webbing as well.
