Brightest Day #20

Because Brightest Day #21 was published today, I'm assuming that it's fair game to post seven pages from the last issue.



The issue begins with the Aquafamily fighting monsters lead by Siren, Mera's sister, and Black Manta on the beach. Aqualad has cauterized Aquaman's wound with his lightning powers and thus the main problem becomes how to move the fight into the ocean and away from the beach.









They have a long and dramatic fight, with Mera facing off against her sister, who calls her an outcast and other mean things. Eventually the good guys win, which means it's talking time!

The White Lantern has some...interesting plans that we don't really know fully yet--a few issues before the White Lantern killed Hawkman and Hawkwoman after they completed their mission because they refused to be split apart again.

i reallly think his dickish ness might have to do with the fact that it does not have a true host (Boston is an intermediary) alsot eh only dickishness we know for sure is what he did to the Hawks (that said... ir eally think the life entity is like a child without a host.

Dunno, I think it's less it being a dick but super charging itself as best as it can. I'm guessing all 12 are going to be absorbed and then expelled later again, perhaps with Aquaman even re-growing his hand again.

The Ring returned his life, but didn't give him an ULITMATUM like it did the others... he might have been returned to the water to heal...

Jackson/Aqualad has his water bearers (water whips)
And I believe Lorena has water control too.

Mera has had waterbending powers for forty eight years, and I don't think Lorena is anything other than amphibious.

I think water bending gives Aquaman's powers a nice visual element they don't always have. I want to see more of that.

We've seen psionic nosebleeds before. But this might be the first psionic weeping blood I've seen.

Then you haven't been looking the right places. Psychic nosebleeds are the most popular (and about as accurate as the 'only using 10% of your brain' nonsense) visual, but bleeding eyes and ears are still fairly common.

Recent examples: The UnMen, Global Frequency, Rex Mundi, Starship Troopers, Final Crisis and the TV show, Supernatural.

I know a lot of people have problems with Blackest Night and Brightest Day but let me just say that without these series I would still only know of Mera as "Aquaman's wife" and would never have realized how freakin' awesome she could be.

Oh yeah--at this point, she's probably just as awesome as Aquaman can be, if not more so. I don't know if I want an Aquaman book per se, but I would be totally game for an Aquaman & Mera book.

I have to say, the Aquaman story has easily been the most interesting out of all the Brightest Day stories. I like how Black Manta's gone from "that one stupid villain from Superfriends" to a damn scary mother, I like how it shows off Aquaman's badass-ness, and I really like how the new Aqualad's parents weren't killed off pointlessly at the first opportunity (or at least, that's what happened when I was still reading; I stopped following Brightest Day when my funds started running short)

Okay, I've been looking at this for a while now, and I'm just curious: did anyone else notice Arthur's costume revert back to his collarless, classic costume?

I think that's just his White Lantern costume. You can see Aquaman's belt has the white lantern symbol.

Well the White Lantern was like "Some are more important then others" and I'd have to go back and look but I'm pretty sure the ones that are all getting zapped away are the ones that were shown being "More important" while the ones that aren't are the ones that aren't the important ones. So I think it's obvious they won't be gone for long, it probably has a point somewhere I'm sure . . .
