So yeah. I'm not sure if others share this sentiment, but Jesus is awesome.
And after how many months, I'm reading a manga that caught my interest, about a demon who met an old priest and then became a priest himself, and an angel that was supposed to deport him but instead fell in love with him.
Although you can read it yourself ;) It's sweet, it's sappy, and actually very well-versed in angel/demon hierarchy, from dukes to dominions, from cherubs to marquis.
And it's shounen-ai, in case you've got issues with that.

Believe what you will, but my faith lies in the Jesus that will say "I love you" and that's as huggable as this:

Date: 2011-03-09 12:41 pm (UTC)I recall a priest whose church I went to who used to note that Jesus must have been HELL to be an apostle for. Not just the fact that he had the sheer charisma to achieve what he did, nor yet whole endless forgiveness thing going on (which must have been magnificent to watch, but be a bitch to live up to... I should add I'm paraphrasing the priest here), AND the balance-upsetting lessons (many of which would have been pretty much groundbreaking to the Jewish society of the day), but that he would have been like that ALL THE TIME! How do you keep up with that?
The notion of Jesus even loving a demon because, perhaps, he sensed there was hope for redemption there, or even that it didn't matter whether there was or not, is pretty darned fantastic, and the phrasing works too.

Although at least we know he wasn't entirely a pushover, so the loving was gaged well.

Oddly, and possibly blasphemously, I'm reminded to the scene in Wonder Woman where she discusses the effects of carrying her lasso with her all the time. It means she can never, even if she wants to, look at things through rose tinted glasses, she sees things as they are, all the time.
There's also a line in the "Common Grounds" series where an immortal character mentions meeting him, and when asks, all he'll say is that he was "the nicest guy you'd ever met". Now, that never quite rang true to me, I can see Jesus as many things, but I never see "nice" as being his primary adjective. It's a worthy adjective to be sure, just... not quite right in that context. IMHO

I'm so used to see religious people portrayed as bigoted (although, to be fair, the most powerful and influential religious people do tend to be bigots; I'd much rather trust a priest than the Pope), it's really refreshing to see a portrayal that focuses on the "be excellent to each other" part.
