The folks behind Young Justice have stated that they're working to make the tie-in comic a companion piece that will supplement the TV show, not just a monthly exercise in filler material, and the final line of dialogue this issue makes that evident.



This issue takes place shortly after the pilot two-parter, during Superboy's first night at Mount Justice.



Superboy, eventually realizing there's something odd about everything going on, decides to test a theory.



The teleporter system normally announces the identity of anyone who enters it (as we've seen multiple times in the show, e.g. "Superboy, B-Zero-Four" -- and bonus trivia: according to the creators, the voice is supposed to be Catherine Cobert, from the JLI days). The fact that it doesn't announce Aquaman is the evidence Superboy needs that none of these people are real.





The little guy was picking up on psychic residue left in the cave from a traumatic past event.

Well, at least Miss Martian didn't say "Hello, Megan!" while hitting herself in the head, at least in the one page she's been in. If she's like that the rest of the issue, it's a better average than the show!

I honestly can't work out if I like this Joker design or not. It's... different, at least? Distinctive?

I like Superboy about to try throwing Superman, and then just not being able to bring himself to do it... so deciding that Aquaman would be a better choice...

Aw, cute story. The "Superboy hates monkeys" running gag is probably my favorite/the only one I like from the show. The only running gag that irks me is "Hello Megan", and I'm getting used to that.

I hope the Gene-Gnome with a crush makes it to the show proper.

I kinda like Aquaman's footwear except for the open toes. Unless you're the Hulk or Jack Hawksmoor, potential injury to bare feet always concerns me.

I thought it's a nice little detail, as he probably has webbed toes. Most of the sensitive areas are covered anyway.

It's only issue 2 and the Joker is guest-starring (sorta) already..? That feels a little like pushing it.

i was kinda hoping it could stay around as a pet, but I remembered from the last episode that that sphere thing is Superboy's new friend/pet. :D

Well, it obviously wasn't the Joker for real--but that gene-gnome's representation of him.

I do too, but not nearly as much as I think I SHOULD, given the subject matter and the creators (Weisman, you've done way better!) and the handling of Megan is the prime reason. I really liked her in the Teen Titans comic (before I finally gave it up, she was one of the few reasons I stuck around). But in the cartoon, it seems every scene she's in (that's not a basic fight scene participation), it's either to be ogled by one of the guys, to be hopelessly infatuated with Superboy, or to screw something up and "Hello, Megan!". Even worse than Starfire in the Teen Titans cartoon, because at least when she screwed up it could be played off as "totally unfamiliar with Earth customs". With Miss Martian, it just comes off as "I'm the ditzy one!"

I think it would be better off if they'd kept her secret White Martian heritage (I suppose it still might be in the cards but there's really been no evidence of it, and since Artemis has her 'dark backstory' I have a feeling they don't want to play the same card twice), because then at least she'd have something interesting going for herself. As it is, every time I see her, I'm reminded of Malibu Stacy's "Let's bake some cookies for the boys! Tee hee!"

There are some things I really do like about it, mostly the action's good and the voice acting, they've had a couple really good humerous moments, and I especially like they actually follow a firm timeline with dates and everything, I just can't watch it without being annoyed by a character I'm supposed to like. So, right now as cartoons go, I'm enjoying it less than Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Generator Rex.

actually it's the third they had a #0. But you're point still stands. But they said in an interview that the Joker had a lot of history with the league they needed to explain before he could appear on the show or something like that.

Well they showed in the last episode that she got that "Hello Megan" thing from the TV show she watched to familiarize herself with Earth Customs, not to mention copied her appearance from, or at least implied that.

And I think they are doing the White Martian thing, they said her her profile that she "Hides her true appearance" I wouldn't compare the White Martian thing to Artemis having a villain background/father/training whatever is going on with her. I think the White Martian thing will come into play later in the show, while they're obviously exploring Artemis's past first, so yeah. I dont know what I'm getting at, that Megan's thing is more secret then Artemis I guess. And that unless they've changed it she probably IS a White Martian.
