So... a question...

I picked up Invincible Iron Man 501 and 502 just for the heck of it last time I went looking, and honestly bought them because I'm a freak who makes a point of picking up comics with Filipino characters in them...
But anyway....
I may not be the right one to ask, but so far, as I've gathered, Tony's looking for a mole in his operation which I no longer understand since it spanned 502 freaking issues...
(this is about the minor characters, btw, so no major major spoilers about Tony himself. It's more about L. Pimacher, Tim Cababa and a bit of Pepper)
But has Pimacher always been this good?

I honestly haven't seen the character portrayed yet. I know he's one of the important members of Tony's team, but as to his personality, I have no idea. Is he super competent? Is he funny? Soft, tough, weird? Obviously intelligent, but does it manifest in his personality? Because it seems like everyone's surprised to see him fight so well.
........
.......
Also, because I am half crazed slash fangirl, I've got to point this out in lieu of close proximity, saving Tim as opposed to Pepper (although we can write that off as Pepper being more powerful and stuff) and my inability to NOT overthink things...
on what planet does someone FLY OVER just to bring a buddy a six pack of beer and pizza? With THAT smile? With those adorably awkward words that make it sound like more than just a quiet night? And the porn stache?
Because I find it deeply amusing for a blond guy to have a black porn stache.
But anyway....

That can be summed up as: bright engineer types that were under-utilized or unemployed that Tony snapped up (after, in one case, ignoring them).
They're barely even characters, really. Mostly sounding boards for Tony and not much more than that. They have had personalities, but they're fairly minor to the plot and the only thing that really stuck out for me is that the artist seems to want to draw one of them as if he were Val Kilmer).

Darn. Besides the reason above, the only other reason I picked this up is because the minor characters interested me.

Date: 2011-03-22 03:07 pm (UTC)While I might be over-stating the case, they really aren't much more than what you're seeing here. In fact, this is probably the most character development I've seen them get. Most of their dialogue is 'Boss, we need to do this.' or 'How are we supposed to do that?'. When introduced, we got a teeny bit of backstory, but mostly in the form of being told: Tony ignored this guy way back when, but remembered him...Tony knows this guy got laid off but was brilliant and so on.
As characters, this is as much development as we've seen. Pepper and Mrs. Arbogast have had more, but mostly because they're long standing players.

Date: 2011-03-22 09:37 pm (UTC)Thanks for the info. Just one more thing; what IS Pimacher's backstory? From the first issue he appeared in, I mean?

Date: 2011-03-23 12:52 pm (UTC)Previously, Pimacher played the 'Detroit Steel' game on the iPhone, in which Justin Hammer's widow and daughter crowd-sourced enemies drones to fight Tony, which was a fun idea.
Pimacher's history, such as it is, was pretty one note...as it was for all four of them. So one-note, I don't remember it. Honestly, I the four of them have been pretty indistinct as characters. Pimacher might have been the guy who lost his job when the US carmaker he was working for went belly up or he might have been the guy fired for being too smart for the company he was at. Honestly, none of them have been given really compelling stories or identities.
I don't mean to say they've done nothing...they have. But they're in the background of the action and don't really seem to do much other than react to what Tony's doing. Either their incredulous of (but also inspired by) his vision, joking as they 'tech the tech' or just trying to figure out what's going on. They don't exist as much more than props to Tony's life.

Date: 2011-03-22 03:46 pm (UTC)As for the vibes you were getting, I'm not even a slashy person and I was instantly picking up stuff from Pimacher in the scans. So there you go. :p

Date: 2011-03-22 05:33 pm (UTC)I dunno. Taking enough electricity to make you translucent (how does that even work?) and not even getting dazed out of it, plus the comment about flying over, kinda makes me suspect that there's more than meets the eye there.

Date: 2011-03-22 09:45 pm (UTC)The porn stache alone makes him fishy. And the theories rise! See, now I wouldn't have been able to come to that conclusion on my own. Now we're getting somewhere.

Ahhhhhhhhh.
Incidentally, I keep wondering... how tall is Cababa, by the way? Whenever I wonder, I keep thinking "not very".

Oddly,
one of the few Filipino characters in a major franchise and he MIGHT MIGHT be gay.
Not that I'm complaining. I'm just surprised Marvel read my mind (again).
