scans_dailyWe would like to remind our members once again of community ethos and history. While the comm has moved towards more general comics discussion than its purely slash-focused roots, there are some things that haven’t changed and are still at the heart of Scans_Daily.

Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.

We cannot emphasize this enough. There are plenty of places to find scans and comics commentary. Membership in this community is contingent on your following the rules--all of them. This community was founded by slashers, feminists and LGBTQ comic fans. While membership has grown to include fans of all backgrounds, the ethos is designed to level the playing field for disprivileged people. Being new to the community is no excuse for ignorance of the rules.
A 101 COMMUNITY.
Scans Daily is a 101 level community. This means that while anti-oppression is written into the rules, you don't need to have a deep knowledge of anti-oppression theories, or activism. However, by joining this community, you commit to the underlying principles. The mod team hopes that people new to anti-oppression can learn from the community, while understanding that your fellow members are under no obligation to educate you. Learning is not a free pass to speak from ignorance or intolerance--we expect you to make a good faith effort, and know when to keep your peace. Because this is a cross-sectional community, we have provided resources for those of you who are curious to learn more about anti-oppression. Please make use of them. You are responsible for your own education.
DEVIL’S ADVOCATES AND SILENCING
The devil has enough advocates and does not need any more, so please think before you comment. This community was built to be a place where, amongst other things, slash could be freely discussed, monosexist attitudes could be challenged and heteronormativity questioned. Dismissing or questioning the validity of queer readings, and discussions of racism, heterosexism and other oppressions, has a silencing effect on members who are already marginalized. Silencing tactics will not be tolerated.
YOU HAVE ALTERNATIVES.
Like we said above: There are plenty of places to find scans and comics commentary. If you cannot abide by the rules and ethos of Scans Daily, we would suggest you leave. If you continually flout the rules or disregard the ethos you will be removed from the community. You will only get so many chances to improve on bad behaviour.
