In fairness he doesn't see them as girlie, he sees them (correctly at the time) as being a "girls club".

As someone who has been the only male (albeit a closeted gay) in an otherwise 100% female working environment that can be a very disconcerting place to be, not because they weren't bloody good people (They very definitely were, and I'd work with any/all of them again in a heartbeat), but because you LEARN THINGS NO MAN WAS EVER MEANT TO KNOW!

I'M NOT KIDDING!*

I now know more things about a collective female perspective on the male gender than is perhaps entirely healthy, and I have an in depth awareness of organs I not only don't have, and never will, but have no particular interest in knowing about (Though I admit that, had I been someone other than I am, might have been terribly useful) , AND THE IMAGES WON'T GO AWAY!!!

And when they realised what they had been saying in front of a guy (possibly by spotting the shade of beet red or chalk white I had turned, usually whilst trying to burrow into the office floor unseen) I was told "Sorry, we forgot you were there, we just think of you as one of the girls"... which I was never quite sure how to take (given they assumed I was interested in girls myself), but which I just smiled and nodded at.

(I'd probably be as uncomfortable in a 100% male environment under those conditions too, I should add. A mixed environment is much more relaxing)

For some reason, the reverse isn't actually as painful, when there's one girl in a male environment, but maybe certain things aren't as aired out...

yup, I've been in EXACTLY the same work environment - it's pretty astonishing, isn't it? And did you ever have that moment when the woman are on a "why do men do that?" tip, and then they all turn to you with an accusatory, silent look? Terrifying.
And now that I know what women talk about among themselves, I cringe to thing what the gf says to her friends...
