Yeah, so... When Barry was resurrected and it was clear he was reclaim the title of The Flash, I'd heard from many Silver Age fans who protested that Barry Allen wasn't just another boring flat Silver Age hero. That there were real story opportunities to exploit with Barry back in action.
And I have yet to see any of them, including this - which isn't helped by the fact that they just did this "World Not As We Know It/Set Right What Went Wrong" thing with Wonder Woman.
To be fair, at least Johns is TRYING to do something unique with Barry. I didn't see him do anything really interesting with Hal until maybe right now.
Honestly, though, I'm FAR more interested in what they're doing with Barry here then I've been interested in Wally for the past...half a decade or so.
Screwed up gender politics? Check. "Dark" and "Gritty" reboots to B and C-list characters? Check. Written by Geoff Johns? Check.
PASS.
Seriously, I don't read a whole lot of DC anymore, but even from across the aisle I can tell that this looks like a trainwreck. No central high concept, no majorly interesting new characterizations, and Batman has to help save the world. Again. Wake me when its over.
Yeah, I'm guessing that the whole point of this is for Johns to justify bringing back Barry Allen under the premise that, if he hadn't become the Flash, everything would be royally fucked. In other words, The Nail, only nail-ier.
Any else notice something wrong on the check-list for this event? ... pretty much all them are one-shots. Seems like a waste of Print that they all have Flashpoint in the title, so what's the point of numbers?
"Flashpoint, starring Batman." Because, y'know, Batman doesn't get the spotlight nearly enough in these DC-wise crossovers, so it's nice to know that he'll be taking center stage in a crossover that isn't even supposed to be about him.
Seriously, this whole exercise used with the alternate versions of the characters and the 'what's different/what's the same' universe changing events used to interest/amuse me. But I'm WEARY of it.
How many times have we gone to this well? Maybe I'm just getting OLD, here.
You know what I find funny about the Flash being Barry Allen, it that in most games where they use the Flash and recommend reading about the Flash you know what I see....all the stories are about Wally West as the Flash and the original Mark Waid Run and Geoff John stories, it kind of tells you something that most of the things that make the Flash who he is today, was because of Wally not Barry.
