Bloodlines Aftermath: Lobo's Big Babe Spring Break Special

So I thought I was done with the Bloodlines/New Bloods posts for a while but I remembered I promised to post some of this Spring Break Special for werehawk who wanted to see more of Layla. Can't blame him she was pretty fun.

So here's her appearance in the issue.

And this'll be my last Bloodlines and related posts for a while since I'm running out of material rather quickly. Probably hunt for more when I go to another con.

3.5 pages from a 22 page story.

 

The entire issue focuses on Lobo whose come onto a job of protecting the contestants of the Miss Voluptua '95 beauty contest. An interplanetary contest that's gotten down to its 8 finalists. 

Cue Lobo being all grabby hands with the ladies and so on. 

The contest gets attacked multiple times throughout the book by different groups who all hate the contest for different reasons. 

 

One of the attackers is a fembot who attempts to blow the contestants up and Lobo of course stops her. 



(During this time it seems L.E.G.I.O.N had been usurped and was why the book at the time was R.E.B.E.L.S and had Vril Dox II doing his job to get it under his control again.) I have to admit it's an amusing little design idea that the tops od Layla's outfits are always frayed, like Powergirl always having a hole in her suit. 



Wait, are Layla's bikini strings actually just pins? Not a bad idea for having weapons handy and she is invulnerable.



And so Layla vanished once more. From what I've read online she's supposedly appeared in the various version of the LEGION and REBELS books but to what extent I don't know, likely just background appearances, would've been cool to see her in the latest REBELS run but that never happened.

A shame too given DC was sorta leaning towards making her the tough girl equivalent of Lobo, even calling her the Main Woman in her Bloodlines trading card.

Ah, Lobo. You could only be more 90's if you had the word "Blood" in your name. :D

And I'm honestly surprised that I've never seen that "Boobs so big they're hanging over the panel" gag before in an issue of Power Girl- ah, this is Jim "Tarot" Balent at work! I should have known.

Lobo's actually from the 80's. Debuted in "The Omega Men" IIRC

Ahhhh, that's right. Wrong decade! I remember now! He was a sarcastic response by Giffen to "GRIM N' GRITTY" that became a trope definer instead of a trope mocker. That's what I get for posting at 4AM. :)

I'll give Balent this, he can really draw Lobo well. He's so damn expressive!

Balent's art has a couple of notable qualities, but I can't quite put my finger on them.

Honestly I've never liked mohawks on anyone but somehow she pulls it off, and well!
