Greetings True Believers!

Here is the trailer (from WonderCon) for the new Thundercats series that will be airing on Cartoon Network in July. It's looking fun and obviously influenced by Avatar: The Last Airbender. Which is a good thing.

I think the new designs are cool and I always like when they mix swords and tech. Looks to be a good balance of the old and new.

And I'm a child of the '80s and this hits me where I live.

GOTTA GET THE REVIEW OF THOSE BAD COMICS BEFORE IT COMES OUT!! Still need the comics and the right moviemaker program (i'm stuck with Live MovieMaker, which I can only set my pictures in a set time from, unlike just elongating or shortening them in the timeframe from the normal WIndowsMovieMaker...)

Well, I'll be watching the first few episodes at least. Certainly looking better than the new Voltron series.

They don't have Michael Bell voicing....therefore the new Voltron series is automatically inferior.

I never saw Thundercats until I was an adult...the new one looks SOOO much better than the original... If only because they decided to set it on an inhabited world, not a vacant rock.

(On the other hand, at least Thundercats had the excuse of actually being set on a vacant rock, unlike He-Man, which functionally was, but was supposed to be an inhabited world...)

The cgi is kinda obvious, even glaring, but other than that it looks good.

Is it even worth pointing out with all the anime that have done that? Zoids, DICE, Last 2 of the Unicron Trilogy...

The funniest example I saw was in some thing called Trinity Blood. I have since been impressed by cosplayers who manage to make the... main? character's weapon look as outlandishly out of place in reality as it was in the anime.

Mostly the same stuff from the other trailer, but there is a better look at some other designs.

I've been pretty mixed about the way the characters look though. Even though I like the actual designs, the fact that some of them just look (or are) so much younger is gonna meh to me. And Panthro's new design really bugs me. He went from being the cool, suave old guy to looking like... The giant brawny dude that may or may not have brains. (And that could almost be ironic considering how Panthro was recognized by most people.)

I am looking forward to watching though and seeing what carries over, how and what doesn't.

I dunno, it looks okay, but will it be the next "Masters of the Universe" improvement or "Voltron 3rd Dimension", which no one likes to talk about.

Not terribly struck by the looks for Kit'n'Kat or Cheetara...she looks like she needs a good meal before she's sent out to battle.

I like the fact that Cheetara's costume looks better. I'll hopefully have a chance to see this when it comes out.

Cheetara's old costume was made of 80's. It's not overly hard to look better. I always recalled thinking she looked like an aerobics instructor.

Thanks for posting. Although I'm going to disagree and say that this reminds me not of Avatar, but rather every generic anime that has come out since about 2007. But given how terrible the original Thundercats was even that's a huge improvement.

Huh, I don't think there's been any serious fantasy anime since 2007. (at leastnot thehigh fantasy/SF hybrid they're going for) well, there's Legend of the Legendary Heroes, but that neihter looked or sounded anything like this.

I don't know if this is supposed to sound ridiculous, but having taken care of semi-free cats for 15 years and having witnessed a whole bunch of fights, I can state with confidence that cats are bloodthirsty beasts that make Spartans look like gentle lambs.

Looks like they're gonna buttz up Panthro and Snarf, which is a shame, because p. much the only justifiable reasons for caring about a Thundercats remake are Panthro and Snarf.

I mean like Cheetara looks okay, that guy who isn't Cheetara or Panthro is improved, and turning lionel o. lionguy into Cloud from Final Fantasy isn't the worst thing they could have done with him. But I mean... fuck all those guys, because they aren't Panthro or Snarf, who were pretty much the only reasons to ever care about Thundercats in the first place.

The fact that the creators confirmed at Wondercon that the Silverhawks will be mentioned - if not appear out right - in the series fills me with nostalgic nerd glee. Maybe they're who Panthro is interacting with while he is off-world?
