scans_daily So a while back, Rocksteady confirmed that their newest Batman game, Arkham City, wouldn't have any multiplayer aspects to the game. But, as this new trailer shows, that doesn't mean that we won't play as another character during the course of the game...

Date: 2011-06-01 07:41 pm (UTC)The kissing move...I think that's more of an Ivy thing, but I could see Selina pulling that off, too. I hope that one of the canned lines that she has after she pulls that move on someone is, "Remind me to get a tic-tac in their mouths before I pull that move again."
As for the butt...I think that's just for the trailer. Showing off just how different it is from playing Batman. It won't be that prevalent in the game, so I'm not letting it bother me.

I'm still amazed at how well Rocksteady managed to create their battle engine for the first game and they surprised me again now with those moves for Selina. They fit, they're awesome and they make me want to ditch Bruce and play the whole game as her.
I really, really, really hope that Harvey gets a nice characterization. So much potential in this if they're taking as much inspiration from NML as it seems...

Date: 2011-06-01 09:45 pm (UTC)To be honest, I actually liked that video. Selina was badass in it, while maintaining a flirtatious streak that's in evidence in the character most of the time.
Admittedly the ass and cleavage shots were annoying, but sexuality is a large part of the character, and always has been, so they were bound to appear at some point.
Plus there's the idea that most people who read comics and play computer games are considered to be teenage boys, and it was probably skewed this way in order to appeal to that demographic.

Date: 2011-06-02 02:32 am (UTC)Yeah, I can't deny that the cleavage and the ass-shots aren't ridiculously overt fanservice, but then again -- this is Catwoman we're dealing with, it's not as if that's exactly alien to her character to begin with. And I can fully see her using her looks to distract thugs and laying a smacker on a guy before she lays a smackdown on him, so to speak.
Plus, you can't deny they know their primary target audience here.

If Bruce Wayne can master nearly every martial art on the planet, Selina Kyle can master Fighting-In-Heels-Without-Murdering-Your-Ankles (And you KNOW Bruce mastered that one too, Just In Case.)

Most non-comics fans either think of her as 60's catsuit versions or (ugh) think of Halle Berry's version (though few can actually remember the costume thankfully, any more than can remember the plot of Gigli). This shows Catwoman using her sexuality as a weapon and confidently being in control. She's presented clearly as Batman's equal, to some degree.
Is it over the top? Of course it is. But we ARE talking about a woman who dresses in leather, calls herself a cat, a whip as a weapon and is i love/lust with a man who dresses in leather and calls himself a bat. Over the top isn't that hard to grasp, here.
