Oracle Fan-Tumblr and Batman: Year One Movie Clip

In response to the decision to cure Babs' paralysis and deage her some ten years or so, Yamino (aka Elena Barbarich) has begun a tumblr account collecting artwork and stories based on her time as Oracle. Some of 'em are pretty good, so and see and possibly contribute.

For legality, here is a picture of Barbara as Oracle by Adam Hughes, who ironically was the one who did the cover to her Batgirl reboot comic.

I read the fourth part of YEAR ONE first. That final chapter is totally narrated by Jim Gordon, with no caption boxed by Bruce/Batman.

Ben McKenzie can do The Voice without sounding like he's doing a parody of the voice. How about that. Eliza Dushku uses a "chipper badass" voice, which isn't *quite* her Faith voice, but close.

It's hard to tell if they follow how David Mazzucelli drew Bruce Wayne to look like Gregory Peck.

I have to say that between the animated Young Justice and Under the Red Hood I've grow surprisingly fond of Bruce Greenwood's Batman voice.

And Deidrich Baker's voice for BATB Batman is perfect as well.

And never in a million years would I have pegged either as actors that would voice Batman.

This! Conroy is pretty much the best Batman voice, and as much as I love him I am glad DC gives opportunities to other people to interpret the character as well.

Like Deidrich for example is perfect for BATB Batman and the series wouldn't work if he had Conroy's voice.

I do give Brave and the Bold credit, it works for me. More... I guess "serious" works still give me a slight yearning however.

To be fair, not even Conroy sounds as good as he used to. Compare Arkham Asylum voice work to Mask of the Phantasm or even some of his later work on Batman Beyond or JLU, and there's a clear difference.

That's a interesting point. Should they do a faithful adaption of Frank Miller's work, or 'update' it to fit current perceptions of the characters?

Isn't Selina's portrayal in Year One still canon except they down/up-graded it from heavily implied prostitution to dominatrix stuff.

This Ben McKenzie is even more weak at vocal intimidation than Christian Bale, the worst in a long time.

I have it on very good authority that Year One was excellent. Still, I wish I could read it before buying, the loathing of DKR is strong.

If I hear the word "gritty" one more time, my teeth are going to grind down to nothing. At least they didn't overdo "grim" this time.

Year One really isn't that gritty. It's just awesome. It's worth it for the work on Gordon alone.

Yeah, Year One and DKR are.. Kind-of different stories. As Kusonaga says, it's not really even that gritty. Gotham's a miserable place, but there's hope, and that feels like the point of the story. Miller actually invests a lot more in the characters than he ever did in DKR, IMO.

And Gordon is pretty much thoroughly in the vein of the Nolan films - Which I can't stand, personally, but Oldman as Gordon just works.

BTW, I'm looking forward to that Batman Year One animated moreso than Nolan's third Bat-flick!
