A Comic of Ice and Fire
Jul. 4th, 2011 11:38 pmDynamite's adaptation of A Game of Thrones is finally coming out, with the first issue solicited for September. This has been in the works for a long time now, since even before the HBO series started. I mean, didn't they first announce the thing back in February or something?

You have to wonder how the fact that there's now already a TV adaptation is going to affect sales for this thing. Will sales be higher because the series is now more popular than ever, or will they be lower because the itch to see the book brought to life in a visual medium has already been scratched by HBO? I could see it going either way.
Also, they've announced Alex Ross as one of the regular cover artists, which makes me wonder what kind of blackmail they have that they can get him to do covers for pretty much every series they put out.
GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S A GAME OF THRONES #1
Written by GEORGE R.R. MARTIN W/ DANIEL ABRAHAM
Art by TOMMY PATTERSON
Covers by ALEX ROSS, MIKE MILLER.
George R.R. Martin has been called "the American Tolkien" by Time Magazine, and now his landmark fantasy series is being adapted to a graphic format, starting with the first book of the series: A Game of Thrones. The premiere issue introduces readers to George's world, adapting the prologue and first three chapters of the novel, and bringing onto the graphic stage such iconic characters as Eddard and Catelyn Stark, Jon Snow, young Bran Stark, and Daenerys Targaryen. This novel has also been adapted as a major miniseries by HBO!

And I really am not very keen on this version of Jon Snow. I never pictured him with hair that long. Ghost looks pretty good, though.

Date: 2011-07-05 07:19 pm (UTC)I mean, if this is four chapters per issue, that makes what, 18 issues for the first book? And the first book moves at a fairly brisk pace, but month by month is going to be torture for the first half of the second one.
