That's a Kal-El that has never been exposed to the sun since the day his rocket landed on Earth and who has been experimented on probably since that day as well. Judging by what happened to Subject 2, it probably wasn't all pleasant. That's a Kal-El that wasn't raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent and has never met anybody not involved in General Sam Lane's Project Superman.
