You know how the Hulk subconsciously uses some sort of super-math to stop him from killing anyone?

This is from Wolverine #12 by Jason Aaron and Renato Guedes.

Carol is having contractions and her husband Roger is trying to take her to the hospital, but something's in their way.









Anyway the guy goes crazy, blaming Wolverine for the deaths of his wife and unborn child (why he doesn't also blame the Hulk, I don't know), and gets recruited into the Red Right Hand, the group of people who want Wolverine dead for various reasons.

I never bought the super-math theory. Basically, it's saying that the Hulk could do math in his head - while smashing things and people left and right - that could make Chaos Theory his prison bitch.

Even then, this feels a bit Diabolus-y for my tastes.

Hulk may not smash people, but there is one factor he can't calculate for - human stupidity.

While the crash *was* an accident, how Carl handle it with his wife and unborn on the line showed poor judgement.

And who knows how many other people have died because of what the Hulk couldn't calculate?

What did she die of? Being too pregnant? It sort of looks like she was busting to have her baby (like busting to have a pee), but couldn't (because there's no way to get a baby out of there without the aid of the machine that goes ping) and so died. :/

Argh, I know complications are possible, but the whole "dying in childbirth" thing irks me. It's just so damn common in fiction, although very rare in real life.

OK, not reading anything Marvel right now, so to be clear, this is a flashback, yeah? I have no idea what Wolvie's wearing right now, so his costume's not helping, but Hulk appears to be grey, and I don't think he's been grey recently, so...

I personally prefer a Hulk who has killed before in a rampage because it really highlights both the tragedy of the Hulk and the heroism when Banner does channel the destructive power of the Hulk into a force of good.

Did the woman have any other medical complications or did her uterus just explode in a bloody mess? I'm pretty sure that the most likely medical situation would be to lose the baby but not the wife unless there is something else going on.

Ah, man...this is the guy who will be writing the Hulk come October. I hope this is just an off day for him.

My guess would be some kind of bleeding? He seems to have been walking for quite a while, so her dying of blood loss doesen't seem to be inconcievable.

Technically, he's blaming Wolverine for him speeding down the street without looking at where he's actually going.

The context for why the Hulk is even there would be good to know. The gray Hulk wasn't dim-witted and tended not to go smashing up cities if he didn't have to.

Okay, look, if you just move away a bit and then put her down and do all the stuff they teach you in lamoz or whatever, it seems like it would have worked out fine. As it is, you... I don't know what is supposed to have happened there. It doesn't seem like holding her like that and randomly carrying her around would be a great idea.

While cause of death isn't clear in these scenes (abruptio placentae resulting in hemorrhage, I guess), there really are many things that could go wrong in childbirth. OB/newborn nursing class was a little bit terrifying.

Also, I don't think we can't assume that they didn't stop at some point and try to have the baby on their own, but she died (or was dying). In shock, he picked her up and kept running. If she hemorrhaged, there wasn't a whole lot he could do.
