Oh Wait! I get the opportunity to use this!

Sweet.

Okey, first, here is the cover for Batgirl 3, which should be coming out in November or so.

Onto the main part of the post. Recently I've been hearing bits and pieces about a CG show that was meant to be replacing Batman: the Brave and the Bold on Cartoon Network next year, but other than Glen Murakami, producer of the Teen Titans tv show amongst others, being involved, information has been oddly sparse. More so than for the Legend of Korra TV show.

But then, I came across this video, which was apparently taken in the ad break of the most recent B:tBatB episode,

Well, judging from the image quality they recorded it directly from the screen, so I won't hold that against it. Other than the voice over it looks like it might actually be kind of good, seemingly being a little more BTAS in tone than some of the other recent Batman cartoon series'.

More information up when I get it, along with a better teaser.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Turns out that it's a fake trailer my Mxyzplk, oh well. Could stiull be a teaser for the new show next year though.

Why's everyone reporting this Batgirl CGi segment?
It's just part of the very meta crazy finale of Brave and the Bold!
nothing more!

AND
- an allusion to the canceled Batgirl: Year One animated movie
- a reference about the upcoming CGi Batman show which will take Batman back to a more adult/gritty direction

It was the main motivation behind Bat-mite's idea in the finale. Rushing/getting Brave and the Bold so weird it would be canceled faster to make way for such a CGi cartoon.

I guess it's because:

1. That seems awfully well-animated and complete to be there just for a joke.
2. This is the most official detail (outside of it's existence) that's come out yet.

It's definitely speculation, but I don't think anyone's pulling this assumption completely out of their ass.

I'm pretty sure this looks a thousand times better than what the actual Batman CGi show will.
I can already bet, the Batman CGi cartoon will look mostly like the new Green Lantern cartoon.

It's a lot easier to animated a 2-3 minutes segment in CGi than a whole show of 13+ weekly episodes..

This mentality always annoyed me...sure, the WW wasn't that much of a commercial success but it clearly was the most appreciated, and in my opinion the best DC animated movie so far, still to this day.

And why would WW success of failure have any impact on future superheroines DTV films? I mean, I can easily see Batgirl outselling her, simply due to her association with Batman...

-sigh-

Last I heard, there were some rumors swirling that a CGI Batman series was being considered post BATB, and that this was kind of a secret backdoor test pilot thing to gauge audience reaction.

Which, if that's true, I'd say the reaction is...pretty nice.

It was more of a references, specially in context.
(Bat-mite saw that, wanted to rush the new show and thus, cancelling BTBATB)

Is it me, or does the DC reboot have a lot of heroes fighting heroes early on?

I guess that appeals to the message board crowd that obsesses with, "can X beat Y," but I kinda prefer heroes getting along with other heroes more than not.

its a trope (which is why im surprsied i can't find a page for it on tvtropes...)

heros working the same case from different angles see eachother for the fitst time and think they are enemies. fighting ensues...

And it looks like yet another couple never happened in the DCnU. I was actually hoping that maybe they'd use the mass relaunch as an excuse to bring back Ralph and Sue Dibny or Mr. Miracle and Big Barda, but right now, I kinda hope that they don't bring them back. They'd probably split up both couples in the process.

There's something about this Batgirl #3 cover that seems really ...off to me. There's this whole kind of skeeviness behind making Babs Batgirl again, and now that she's already starring in an issue with Nightwing that's already worrisome.

I remember how Simone talked about how important BoP was to her that she had done however many issues without having a (male) love interest for the ladies. I recall she talked about this following a scene she'd written between Babs and Dick, two characters she says she "unabashedly ships." I love these two as a couple, too, but my concerns here are that

a) Babs is continually being retconned to be younger and younger -- and is now either the same age as Dick or even younger than him; a woman being the younger one in the relationship with a man is what we're told is attractive by society -- youth is attractive on a woman. Despite the fact that many real women in relationships with men are older, and Babs being older than Dick was something many readers thought was cool/different/"taboo-breaking" about their relationship. (She was even considered older in the last Nightwing issue when Dick teased her about her fake age of 24)

b) Babs is now able-bodied, leaping from rooftops and swinging from rafters (or whatever) and flirting with Dick -- it's like this is basically trying to tell us this is the sexy, new Babs and that Oracle just wasn't sexy.

I love this couple so much, but this whole Babs as Batgirl thing has turned my stomach so much. :(

You know, I was almost relieved that it turned out to be a something else; because if they did a Babs!Batgirl show, it would be awesome to have a show with a female superhero lead! It would be pretty sweet really! Yet I would always keep a grudge against the show for being tied to Babs being des-Oracled and des-disabled, and putting Steph off Batgirl. Does that make any sense?

Hopefully some day, not too long far off, we will have an awesome animated show with a female lead; and it won't be tied to all that mess.

"Does that make any sense?"

It makes sense from your point, but when it comes to Oracle and me, I have always had issues. Unless Barbara is wheel chair bound in a continuity that doesn't have super hero rejuvenation and enhancements, I can't take her dillema seriously. I find no logical reason why she should remain in that wheel chair when heroes are being brought back from the dead when they were practically blown up from the inside out. If she wants to remain as the Oracle even after she's regained the ability to walk, that's perfectly fine. I just find it unrealistic that she could still be in that state in a continuity where so much can be done.

That's not to say that I will only accept Barbara as the one and only Batgirl the way DC is labelling her as "the most recognizable Batgirl". I will always prefer Stephanie and Cass' Batgirls to Barbara's anytime.

"wheelchair bound" is pretty problematic terminology, but I see your point in term of the continuity and how weird it is in comparison to male characters seeming able to recover to any sort of difficulties - though I prize having a heroic and awesome disabled character higher than my suspension of disbelief too.

- "wheelchair bound" is pretty problematic terminology

Here we go. *clicks website*

"Shackling language like “wheelchair bound” is problematic because it leaves the average listener with the idea, again, that wheelchairs are a tragedy."

Oh, I was under the impression that Barbara getting shot point blank by the Joker in her own home, becoming paralyzed from the waste down and relying on a wheelchair for mobility that cost her the role as Batgirl was in fact, tragic.

"The thing is, a wheelchair is the exact opposite of a tragedy."

Joyful? No, it is not joyful. The only time it would be joyful is if Barbara and everyone else would have the ability to walk, either again or for the first time.

"Problematic terminology" doesn't just mean in the specific case we're talking about right now" - it means that in a wider social context, certain language is unhelpful and even harmful.

I know exactly what you mean. On the one hand, yes, let's have an awesome show starring a female superhero! On the other hand, does it have to be this one?

The reason the others Batgirls don't have the same recognition is because they never had a chance. Give me a Batgirl show with Cass in the cowl and Oracle in her ear and then I'll be interested.

It's not that I don't love Barbara as Batgirl*, but not at the expense of Oracle. Not at the expense of her legacy. That just makes me resent her and I hate it.

*And this is more petty, but I figure any animated Batgirl will be more based on BYO than Bronze Age, and personally? No thank you.

The more i think about, the more I'm persuaded I would be deathly in love with a Oracle + Cass & Steph (& perhaps Mistfit) title or show. Cass & Steph have such amazing chemistry with one another as well as being great characters on their own; and Oracle as their mentor works amazingly too.

You might like it! A lot of people do. I just...hate its depiction of Barbara. I like my Babsgirl as an independent, confident adult who doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. Whose father is supportive, and whose relationship with Batman is one of equality and respect.

Gosh, yes, this would be my ideal show or comic, and I've pined for animated Oracle and Cass for a long time. And I really miss their relationship, and Cass's with Steph, and Barbara's with Charlie.

TEAM BATGIRL.
