Greetings again fellow Scan Dailiers.

If there's one thing you'll notice about my posts (other then I seem to mash the keyboard and I have an unhealthy obsession with Chuck Austen) is that I have a general interest in the origins of non-white superheroes and in particular black superheroes.

So without further adieu I bring you the origins of Wonder Woman's sister...Nubia!

Bluefall had this story in her very large and very in-depth Wonder Woman series.

Oh no, I didn't mean it that way.

I was just having a flashback.

Sorry I ... don't see the point of giving her a BLACK sister. I never cared for her silver age origin.

Little point in giving her a sister at all, in any era. All of the Amazons are her sisters . . .

I expect Polly thought something along the lines of "all the other Amazons are adults, and there's never going to be a lot of kids around, so if I have two daughters they'll at least have each other to play with."

Pretty much the idea behind one of the Donna origins. It can't have been that much fun to have grown up Diana.

There was also some blue clay that Hippolyta used in sculpting class that eventually became Smurfette.

I was just bringing my FATHER back into comics this summer (as he isn't as mobile as he used to be and needed to be reminded why the GL, Thor, and Captain America movies were significant) and I brought him up to speed on the comics from 10 years ago, and the JLA arc: Obsidian Age.

Anywho, the entire reason why I bring this up is because it's a coincidence that I was trying to explain the connections between the League of Ancients and the current heros. The Anointed One = Superman, Tezumak = Batman, SelaU N'ubia = Wonder Woman.

And Sela gained her abilities by passing a series of mystic trials. The woman may have been claimed by Gamemnae, but the trials that empowered her must surely still be out there, and her people as well.

The potential for another woman of color is... was.... there to take Sela's place, and to become an equal in terms of power but from an culture beyond the DC Amazon's.

This version reminds me of Rite from Warren Ellis' run on Stormwatch; she was part of the Changers, a JLA expy (actually one of several that Ellis created).

I LOVED The Obsidian Age arc. Gamemnae was one of those villains that sent chilss down my damn spine. She was truly horrific, especially when she started to absorb people. And all the catastrophie she caused across the DCU. i loved this arc/crossover.

I wish they had used her more often than this 1 time. She was kinda epic like on the scale of early 90's JSA Ominar Synn.

It's always nice to see Nubia related posts~! There's so little of her, whether it's in canon or fan stuff.
