Way the mechs are drawn here makes them look almost exactly like old-school Battletech Warhammers.

SG books for the Avengers Mansion and on the way brings down one of the mechs.

Good issue, I like the art. There is something keeping me from loving it though. Not a 100% on what but it's something.

I think Deodato just CAN'T draw someone non-fanservicy. Which sorta hurts this, because I've never seen Squirel Girl drawn that way. Looks wrong.

More than the boobs (her cup size has fluctuated markedly, depending on who's drawing her), they really need to bring the buck teeth back. She's supposed to be able to chew through solid wood with those choppers.

If her incisors really are like rodent teeth, then she'd need to either regularly chew hard things (like wood or metal) to keep them to a manageable length, or have them ground down every so often.

Maybe she'd just been to the dentist for a cleaning and grinding?

Doom doesn't do self-help . . . with others. He meditates on his non-Richards failings and drastically eliminates them, usually through a convoluted , over-complicated plan that requires him to seemingly be defeated by dozens, perhaps hundreds of heroes, one at a time, or all at once, until he has been purified.

Oh he never joins in, he simply funds them through several dummy corporations and a single Doom-Dollar in his own name which he signed with amused scorn. He also helps plan the itinerary and writes the thoughts of the day.
Coincidentally, Vosgoo's group excursions always have nebulous goals with strangely satisfying outcomes for the mental wellbeing of the whole group.

Seriously, though, I feel the same. The pouty lip syndrome is part of it, but it's not that bad on its own. The art just feels a bit lifeless, for some reason, which I can't put my finger on.

His art always makes me think of Poser 8 CGI models.

I have NO idea if he uses it, and even if he does use CGI for reference he obviously works very hard at creating his own refs, but whatever creates the end result really bugs the hell out of me.

He's a super talented artist, no question. It's just in almost every issue there's a few panels that reach out and distract the hell out of me.

Maybe it's a weird, illustrated version of the uncanny valley.

I think the two biggest problems are the combination of cell-shading (which doesn't look good anywhere but video games, IMO, and even then it needs to be kept restrained) and the faces looking like what happens when you try anime-esque faces in Poser, with them being spread in a rather odd and uncomfortable manner.

There's good art trying to break through in there, but those two things really hold it back, I think. (That said, I like how Doreen's drawn overall. She's not a supermodel, no, but given her age and activity level, she's going to be in the "athletically trim" category of attractive, and I think he caught that, for the most part.)

This is starting to make me nervous. The more Squirrel Girl is featured in the Avengers the mroe she's subject to comic book rules.

Thing is, I can't see her being on the team officially. She ALWAYS wins. "Galactus is coming? Oh, send SG. Maybe Franklin Richards as backup in case." No battle would ever be a final loss. Plus, being who she is, even if she "died" or got fridged it would all be a part of some grandiose plan where she never died at all because she is unbeatable.

If Mephisto tried to strike a deal with her to retcon away a huge chunk of her personal history in return for saving the life of someone close to her, by the time she was done, not only would that person's life be saved without the retcon, but also Firefly would be about to begin its 10th season.

I think I'm in a state of disbelief at squirrel-girl being in a Bendis written New Avengers book. It's awesome. But the WTF will just not go away no matter how many times I read this!!!
