The plant Cluemaster has is indeed a Black Mercy, and Steph ends up briefly under its sway.

Yeah, that is definitely a cool costume--I would love if she wore something similar to this in the DCnU. :D

Another detail--I believe Miller's said that the "Batgirl" behind her is Nell, the girl that's been super-supportive of Steph as Batgirl throughout the run.

I certainly hope so. Two points in support of it: Nell appears in this ish, at the hospital waiting for Batgirl to come out of her coma; Steph appears on the previous page in civvies with that short crop 'do, riding herd on her young'un, which suggests she's old enough here for Nell to be grown-up.

And now Steph and Nell and all the Batgirl'verse awesome is going away. :{

That "Almost." at the end gives me the eerie feeling that the Stephwing outfit may just be the DCnU version of Spoiler we're all clamoring for.

Hasn't there been pics of supposed-Steph in the reboot with short hair? Or was that speculation. Because if is was her, that's what makes me go for my theory.

Steph with blue - obvious. Babs no, Oracle! with green - obvious. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named frothing at the mouth with red, trifecta.

Steph as Nightwing, no. (1) Nightwing would be derivative hand-me-down #3. (2) Spoiler is perfect identity-concealment. (3) Spoiler bucks the women-in-swimsuit default setting (as did original Batgirl Cass) with 0% bare showing. (4) Spoiler is 100% non-Bat, non-Bird original. Please let Steph be herself (if for no other reason, so that she might avoid having Diana's continuity problems?).

Also, I never thought that haircut worked for Barry, with Steph it does nothing for me either. I fully acknowledge that your mileage may vary.

Since it's the Black Mercy we're talking about here, I saw it more as an ideal. Nightwing represents a distancing from the Bat family to become a hero in your own right. He's also he the heart of the DCU, arguably. That's who she aspires to be. Spoiler, while part of her and certainly indipendent, would be a step back. A hero to all, under no ones shadow, that's the dream.

My fave wasn't is the scans-- it was Babs, Cass, and Steph, all in their Batgirl suits, posing with The Blackhawks in a black and white photo dated "1944." What ties it neatly together is Skeets hovering over on the right side of the photo.

I hope someday we get to see this story for real-- where Booster plucks the three Batgirls from some point at the peak of their careers and deposits them in WW II. At the very least, it'll make for some interesting conversations with Zinda in the present day.

Also, I *believe* she had a daughter, not a son. Also, the boy is only five and Steph is supposed to be 35 in that future panel. She was first pregnant at 16. (Her other child is already three)

On a side note, in relation to what BQM said -- how sad am I that Mia could have shown up in issue #23??! The snark between her and Steph could have been hilarious. I don't understand why/how the whole "rights" thing works --- BruceBatman can be in 10 different issues a month, but Cass and Mia can't be in two as guest stars?!!?! :(

God, I hate DC so much right now. Miller did a great job of bringing it to a close, particularly given that the story arc was supposed to last another five or six issues, but more than anything reading this final issue just left me feeling deeply disappointed that the story wasn't allowed to progress to its planned conclusion. I'm particularly grumpy about it because I actually only began reading Miller's Batgirl a few weeks ago, right in time for it to end. D:
