Warning... Fanboy rage in 5....4...3....2...1

what happened?

John came off as a Jerk, the Guardians used to be ass holes but now they are totally beyond that. LEAVE GANTHET ALONE! I can't believe Soranik would Actually agree to that crap! Its even implied they tortured Sinestro. OH On top of that, they want to bury the Krona with the Lantern Honored dead!
WTH I used to like the lantern books... but this? THIS...

I want the next GL event to center around the Corps banding together to kick the Guardians out and fill the spaces with creatures that aren't such assholes.

So the Guardians were assholes? What a surprise.

How did John come off like a jerk, by the way?

Also...doesn't Soranik have some really epic daddy issues with ole' Thall? I don't know the exact details, but considering his crimes, I could see her at least initially agreeing to it.

This is beyond "asshole". As far as I'm concerned, they are now officially villains.

I'm calling it; before the first year's worth of new arcs, it will be revealed that the Guardians had decided that Krona was right, and they are now engaged in a grand plan to overthrow all planetary governments and maintain order through the galaxy by conquering it. Hal will return to the book sometime in 2012, as the enemy of the Guardians, and will ultimately rally a majority of the Lanterns behind him, while Sinestro sides with the Guardians' plan to eradicate the very concept of freedom in this galaxy.

We will no longer have our judgement questioned. By anyone.

What is "how to identify a dictatorship" for $1000, Alex?

Is there anything creepier than the Guardians faces in that second to last panel? For some reason in my head I hear Ganthet's screams in that last panel.

Yep, they freaked me the fuck out too. My guess is that they force Ganthet to become the new Mogo, but the ring selection will not be powered by Will, it will be powered by the screams.

Wonder if so many people would accept a Green Lantern ring if it was howling in pain as it told them they could overcome great fear....

Why do the Guardians even bother being all STICK TO THE MISSION DO NOT QUESTION US anymore? 99% of their servants go crazy or get taken over by evil or get sick of them and rebel. 98% of the Guardians eventually go crazy or get taken over by evil. Any Green Lantern who manages to last five years and be merely "insubordinate" should get a raise and a medal.

Also, their heads are varying wildly in size from panel to panel. That could be medically problematic.

I talked to someone on DA, and he basically think the Guardians are victims of "authority figures=badguy".

Which doesn't really work in a book about space cops who fly around the galaxy giving orders to people who've never even heard of them before.

Guh, I hate how the Guardians are played up as bad guys. Their actions in the latest GL arc are roughly at the level of 'pure scum'.

And frankly, I think them as assholes undermines the GL Corps as a whole. Without the Guardians, who have been successfully protecting the universe for a couple *billion* years, the GL Corps really has no legitmacy. They're just guys with powerful, neat rings.

Hopefully, yea.

Hm, "New Guardians" indeed. Perhaps it is time for a regime change.

I think they're actually doing the original Emerald Twilight pitch here. We've got Sinestro as GL, Hal powerless, Guardians vs Guardians, Corps vs Corps

Okay, gonna go out on a limb here, and suggest that Krona had a last-ditch escape plan against dying.

...And it involved him possessing the other Guardians, which is why they're starting to act all Evil, including banishing Hal to Earth.

What is the great enemy of the Green Lantern Corps? Fear. And the Guardians are terrified right now. Several big events have given rise to new threats to their authority and goals. In War of the Green Lanterns, they saw Hal kill one of their own (crazy though he might have been), and freaked the hell out, immediately stripping Hal of his ring. Now their fear has made them extremely paranoid and irrational. I would bet money that this will be coming up in a future story.

In the midst of all that paranoia, though, I have to wonder why Sinestro still has a ring. They just banished Hal Jordan for killing one of their number, but they seem to be conveniently forgetting that Sinestro successfully destroyed the entire Corps and all the Guardians save Ganthet by awakening Parallax and manipulating Hal.

Of course, this all happened before the current group was born, so maybe they're just victims of ignoring history.

Before, it seemed that the rings were smarter than the Guardians. They knew to choose someone who could overcome great fear and didn't worry about what the Guardians would think. We learned later Mogo had something to do with that (I'm not sure what). Now that Mogo is dead, we don't have the "Well, at least the rings know who to pick as Green Lanterns" idea to counterbalance the Guardians' ass-hat-ishness.

IIRC, Mogo was supposed to act as a Moral Compass, so the rings not only would chose people capable of overcoming great fear, but also who were good. In fact that was mentioned after Krona was killed. With Mogo dead, there was nothing to stop a ring to detect Sinestro and chose him.

Ah. Makes sense. "Thaal Sinestro, you have the ability to overcome great fear. Anything about being a facist jerk is unimportant at this time."

Of course, Jack T. Chance was an exception to Mogo's Moral Compass, and that was just because the dying lantern said "Pick someone with a certain moral felixibilty." (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
