Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, no strangers to future stories about today's superheroes after their lengthy run on Spider-Girl, bring us a story of Superman in the Batman Beyond era.
After talking about Earth with the aliens he's just saved, Superman decides its time he finally returned to the place.
Of course, the reason why Batman/Bruce is always alone in the future is that if he wasn't, there wouldn't need to be a new Batman. Bruce and Dick have to part ways, otherwise Dick would be Batman, and we wouldn't need the new guy.
And why hasn't Dick gotten himself a replacement eye yet? It's the future! I bet he could get one that shoots lasers? Maybe he just read Nick Fury comics when he was a kid...
Beat me to it. You'd think a journalist by trade would know better, regimen vs. regiment is not the kind of thing either spelling or grammar check picks up for you.
That's really good. I can hear Clark's voice. And grumpy Bruce is always a treat. though I've never been able to see Bruce as old and retired. but then again, I don't like to think of Bruce as dead either. Not unless he gets upgraded to minor god of Gotham, which would be hilarious and awesome, like in that one fic.
Well, in the series he's retired because his body simply can't do the job any more. It's one of the reasons he's bitter and the reason he created the BB outfit. Though a prime aspect of the series is that Terry pulls him out of his shell and even gets him to reconnect with old allies. And on occasion he does get into a fight and is considered pretty damn tough for a guy his age.
This was cute. Though, yeah, the exclamation point on the end of Bruce's last words feel off.
Speaking of Supes, and DCnU: has anyone heard whether or not the whole Death and Return of Superman still happened? What's Doomsday's status in the DCnU? Hank Henshaw? The Eradicator? Superboy (both Conner & young Kent)? And, most importantly [for my money], what's the status of John & Natasha Irons? (With everything that's being kept and tossed for the "superheroes have been active [at least as far as the public knows] for five years" deal, I've not heard if that bit is still being kept; I'm still boggling at how Batman is supposed to have gone through all the Robins in that time.)
I can't imagine that the Death and Return of Superman can have happened. One of the key elements of those stories was Lois knowing that Clark Kent is Superman, which she doesn't anymore.
Oh yeah...and if Pa Kent was dead before Clark became Superman, I guess there would have been nobody to pull him back from whatever weird afterlife he was in during that storyline, too.
I find that I like that they went with the idea of Clark actually slowing down as he got older, instead of the more usual "The Older He Gets the Stronger He Is Because of the Yellow Sun" thing. I'll have to pick this up when I get the chance.
It's kind of bittersweet to see DeFalco/Frenz/Buscema on a book dealing with legacy superheroes that have gotten older and been succeeded by younger versions of themselves, but I'll take it.
Huh. First time I've ever heard Barda might be older than she appears. Kinda sounds like the whole how old is Wonder Woman question that's been batted around now and again. Which I guess might be on purpose since Barda was the future League's Wonder Woman stand in.

"Discovered he'd been a host for a parasitic Joker personality for the past thirty years. In therapy"
"And Dick?"
"Went public with his ID as Nightwing. Still holding a grudge for me being a complete asswipe to him years back. Still missing the eye."
"Sigh... I don't even know why I ask these questions sometimes..."
