Superhero Watersports
Sep. 6th, 2011 08:56 pmNow that is some fine family entertainment: the Riddler and the Joker about to kill a trussed-up Robin in a giant cheese press, all in front of a live audience.
At Sea World.
Author Marc Tyler Nobleman has been sharing a series of interviews he did with the creators and performers of a DC-superhero-waterskiing show produced at Sea World in the 1970s and early '80s.
The show included stage magic designed by Harry Blackstone, including the Teen Wonder in a cheese press. One of Nobleman's interviewees recalled how that device was potentially dangerous: "It did spike Robin’s cape one time and when it came time for him to pop up and say his lines, he was struggling to free himself."
