I *really* like these panels.

I realize some people dislike the "interview" panels the preface many avengers book but on the whole I think they're a great idea. They show that the humanity of the Marvel universe.

I am surprised they waited this long. At this point every A or B-list hero who isn't an X-Man will be an Avenger. It's only a matter of time at this point.

Still, seeing a different X-Men other than Beast or Wolvie would be nice. Preferably a more outside the box choice like Psylocke, Havok, Rachel Gray. Or perhaps upgrade one of the Young Avengers or any dozens of the of C or D-List Avengers from the past decade or any of the number of almost infinite Initiative characters that made.

I actually wrote an alternate universe in which the original X-men and the original Brotherhood line-ups were switched. Jean and Bobby ended up leaving the Brotherhood to join the Avengers.


It's be nice having Rachel on the Avengers. I'm not super up on Avengers lore, but they don't really have a lot of telepaths, do they?

Hmm, has Sersi ever used telepathy? Eternals usually have limited use in all of their disciplines, but she might be one of those types that specialized so much that she lost the others, like Makkari.

Wow. All I can say is that when Bendis gets it, he really hits the mark, because what Hawkeye says is basically every sad, pathetic little argument I've ever seen over at CBR protesting the fact that Bendis has made his 'favourites' part of the Avengers, ignoring the fact that Busiek and others did similar things.

You can almost guarantee, on the other hand, that if the Avengers were a new property today, everyone would bitch when the original bunch disassemble to be replaced by the newer crew.

And it's not just the letter-writer - she gets a raw deal in the text, often being treated as Hank's sidekick rather than being an Avengers member in her own right. Look at the cover of Avengers #1: "THOR! ANT MAN! HULK! IRON MAN!"

I seem to recall in the Marvels story, there was an article that called Galactus' first appearance on Earth a hoax.

So I imagine those crackpots find different things to obsess over ("Captain America wasn't really killed in Civil War," "Genosha wasn't really destroyed", "Thor really isn't a God." and so forth.)

Yes, it is an article that points out Giant Man/Goliath just "happened" to be out of town when Galactus attacked. It would seem VERY odd to the casual Marvel Universe inhabitant that Galactus was going to destroy the Earth and then eat it, but Reed Richards was able to scare him off with a rather tiny looking device.

I still wonder why they don't set it up so that every hero in their respective universes is a member of that world's core team (JLA, Avengers, Justice Homies, Paradigm, what have you). They primarily go and do their own things in their own books but can be called upon by the main team when a crisis that would be best handled by their powers arises.

Something like what the Justice League Unlimited cartoon showed.

With Strange, it's probably along the lines of 1) Wizards are lame or 2) magic is bullshit.

I see it certainly caught Daredevil off-guard. I'm assuming not only is he fighting nazi mechas but also being told he's now an Avenger. Yes?

At first I thought they were describing the first couple of line ups of the accepted classic versions of the team, but couldn't figure out who the mutant ninja would be.... Cus I think those descriptions could be about several other Avengers as well.

Oh I got that, I just thought for a second that they were doing some meta thing where they were describing not only the next person but also some previous member of the team, thereby proving that everyone who's ever been an Avenger could have sounded as a weird choice. But I wrote that in the middle of the night while procrastinating so I didn't make much sense. Thanks anyhow. :)

Oh right. Well, it would be cool if they had... not many mutants in the 616 Avengers, though. Wanda and Pietro of course, Wolverine... arguably Daredevil's a mutant in the conventional sense, not the X-gene sense.

Edit: also, I read an article on Cracked once that said the original Avengers were such a shower, Cap was probably put on the team to keep an eye on them all.

It was a ballsy move to replace all the classical trusted members with low powered recently former villains and have Cap be the only one dependable and popular one. (Which makes Hawkeye leading the Thunderbolts a very interesting mirror of that.)

My theory? He knits. Superfast, so no one sees. He gives all the Avengers themed sweaters one year. Everyone assumes he had them special-ordered. Steve still wears his.
