I truly wish I could post the entire thing. This was really good, getting close to the level of Gaiman's Endless. The game Mephisto plays is a deep one.

I'm up to my limit, so I can't post all of the details, but Mephisto clearly gained intelligence and subtlely maneuvered gods, demons, and other Fear Lords into letting things play out. Which of course means that Mephisto's plan continues without interference from others. Mephisto keeps kidLoki as his secret weapon against the Serpent and in play, and to be there to pick up the choicest morsels after the thunder and clash have quieted down.

Oh Mephisto... you dastardly devil.

He's also over at the Herc book, in the Spider Island event, making moves against Arachne.

.... Arachne or Madame Web... why would Anansi make moves against her? unless he's going all "chaotic trickster" on them just because its more fun to him.

I did, and I loved it. I loved this glimpse into the Cosmology of the Marvelverse (big fan of Cosmologies), and the Devil's Advocacy? EXACTLY how a hellish "conclave" should be organized. Mephisto, Cyttorak, Dormammu, Surtur, all sitting as close to Satan's throne as possible, but none daring to claim to be -him-...

...All it needed was a visit from Vertigo's Lucifer.

We've known for awhile Loki and Mephisto were using each other. Loki's clearly planted or twisted some of what Mephisto knows. I still think Loki will come out on top, but it is fun to watch them screw with each other.

This almost made me feel sorry for Nightmare. You would have thought that with everything going on, he would be right smack in the middle of it feeding off of people's bad dreams. Nope. Makes you also wonder how D'Spayre is doing.

I think I saw him lurking about in the background of the congregation of devils/demonic beings that happens in this issue.

He didn't have any dialogue. Which possibly speaks volumes about how he's been affected by it..

Getting a glimpse of all those mythology figures living side-by-side in their own little organized world was really kinda cool, I daresay :D

Swear to god, this is my favorite mainstream comic coming out right now and I wish it would continue after FEAR ITSELF. I've always thought Gillen was okay but it wasn't till this I was really IMPRESSED. This thing is a delicious joy to read and it works so very well.

I loved the idea that none of the devils know who the TRUE Satan is, by the way. There's something that rings very right about that.

It certainly continues after Fear Itself: it's been solicited into November, to issue #631. I can't find any information that it's been cancelled.

Sorry, it will be a LONG time before I can see the Marvel devil as anything else than a cheap McGuffin in a bad story, and I am secretly suspecting that the a "real" Satan is around, ready to make Mephisto his girl-dog...

But Marvel are probably right not to use it as a character..

I still remember all the criticism Supernatural got for having their version of the devil in the fifth season, smacking about figures from other religions and myths.

If they introduced a 'real' satan or made Mephisto that, then all sorts of uncomfortable questions could be raised about how that being would relate or compare to the various powerhouses in Marvels cosmic pantheons..

This was a good issue.

Which is nice, because the last few issues of JiM have been straight up boring.
