With the creative team they mention, I'm optimistic so far. Cover is okay, but it makes me want a team-up with Genis Vell.

Hmm. Design makes me think of Lightray of the New Gods.

Wonder if that's intentional and if there's a connection.

BTW - the character tag is wrong - the article at CBN says it's a new Ray, not Ray (nor Happy, nor Stan Silver from the first Palmiotti/Grey FF mini).

It's weird, I see pre-DCnU Apollo when I look at him. Wonder if he still has Green Lantern's powers?

I can see elements of Apollo, but more Lightray or even Zauriel.

Possibly. Zauriel had more graffiti on his suit, but I can see the resemblance. Does make you wonder if there's a common origin for them, though.

I preferred the 90s Ray look. Gold helmet, jacket, etc.

I wonder if the fact that Quesada designed that costume (and co-created that version of the Ray, IIUC) factors into not using it/him.

Huh, I hadn't thought of that. Still, The Ray has always had a yellow or gold motif. Which he sort of has here, but it's still lacking the awesome helmet.

This one looks a bit too much like Captain Atom.
More like a variant look for Captain Atom than the good ol' Ray anyway :P
